I can tell you last week if I'd of not run fast I'd of never been able to do the last load I did. I did give up mpg probably around 1 mpg to be honest and I'd of spent about 250 less on fuel which I know you fuel hawks will say it would've went in my pocket correct?

But I will say this if I hadn't run as fast as I did and mind you it wasnt an Hour issue it was an appointment issue I'd of never been able to generate the revenue the last load paid me.

Most decisions we make as adults are balances between cost and benefit. Sometimes it's beneficial to spend more, sometimes beneficial to slow down. There is never one "right way" to do things. We all know that slowing down while on the last leg to the homestead will seem like going 15 mph on a freeway...and no matter how fast we go, it's never fast enough.

I go as fast as legally possible on my way home. Rest of the week I'll go slow.

I am glad that someone sees it this way. I know that I am a company driver and as of right now do not have my own truck. With that being said you can make more money running a little faster than if you run slower. Now you can save more money running slower if you do not have a dead line to meet. As you say it a "not one size fits all situation." As for what I do it is a race against the clock most of the time. I deliver windows and we are on a first in first out dispatch. I have been 5 minutes after another driver getting in and not be able to get another load til the next day. So it benefits me to run a little faster than others.

Just my 2 cents so take it anyway you wish.

Sometimes running faster is the way to go..not talking about blazing down the highway weaving in and out.
Just picking up the pace when needed.
There will always be a debate over this..not trying to start one..just saying we drive OUR way for a reason.

Just keep this in mind also. Several years ago a Missouritrucker ran into a string of stopped cars just over the Oklahoma border on I-44.Nine people killed, and he was given 20 years for manslaughter. Pleaded guiltybecause his lawyer would not be able to defend him because he was going 4 MPHover the limit and the prosecutor was going to try each case as an individualmurder. If I recall correctly he had driven for 20 years with a clean record.
My point being isthat YOU the truck driver have a giant target on you from the cops, lawyers andprosecutors along with big $$$ from those injured. I MPH over the limit is allit takes and you’re on your own.
