Ok so I posted a while back asking about the background check process and found out my problem (someone else who works for conway has the same first and last name as me) got that all fixed so I have been with conway freight for almost 4 months. So I started in training that lasted 2 weeks first week was paperwork and videos, second week was driving (3 days city p&d 2 days linehaul) then I was placed on the flex board. Flex board was not too bad just different hours everyday, then after a few weeks a spot came open on the linehaul board and I was able to get it. My terminal is really good, management is honest even if it's not what you want to hear, the other drivers are cool. The pros would be cool people to work with and for. The cons are as a new driver is the Sterling trucks. Conway is really not a bad place to work. Some people complain about working the dock but it's pretty easy. I have seen stuff about the drive cams but they are no big deal they are manly there for accidents to prove you were not at fault. If you are looking for work just keep in mind all companies have good and bad things about them. Conway is by far not the worst place I have worked. I will try to keep posting about my experience at conway.

I feel the same as whit2, I have a road bid and have had one for 2 years. I haven't driven a sterling in ages, but that comes around to all the drivers from time to time.

I'm in a class 4 barn that is very top heavy with senior drivers, everyone talking about retirement but no one making a move.

The honeymoon is long in the rear view, Con-way will keep your pockets stuffed full!! :biggrin_25519:

I guess it might be still the honeymoon phase but I have been a driver for 14 years so I can say that I have worked for worse. It's far from perfect but I don't think any company is. I am out of the okc terminal.

We are being told that we will get a new terminal in 2016 and we might even become an FAC.

Don't get too excited about getting a new terminal. I'm from Stl. Louis (XSL) and we had a "temporary" patio that was used for almost 13 years. It was a bunch of flat bed trailers together with 4x8 sheets of steal welded on top LOL. Then again our terminal is located right near the ghetto so we blended in. I graduated from the drivers program almost 4 years ago. It's not a bad place to work. Working the cold dock sucks but at nearly 25/hr its not bad. I drove nothing but 1million+ mile sterlings for the first year. Now I drive my assigned freightliner and have a 454 mile run every night. Some nights get a XKC run (514 miles). I'd say it's a fairly laid back place with nice drivers to work with. We had around 20 drivers quit so far this year because of how this company treats them. Ever since the word union got tossed around and Laredo voted it in this changed. Not saying I'm pro union but we got bumped from 62 to 65, pay increase, changes to the point/strike system, and I also think you still get paid for a miss pull. Could be better but it's not bad. 25 and making almost 90k a year for holding a wheel... I can't complain.

As a retired driver from Con-Way Freight I can attest that they are a fine company. I helped open the Orlando, Fl terminal when Con-Way expanded into Florida and was with them until 2004 when I retired from them and moved to Delaware. I was a city P&D and a linehaul driver at different times and a driver trainer for most of my time there. They have a top notch safety department, a great group of employees and yes like any other company a few not so likable managers. I receive my pension check every month, visit the old home terminal on occasion and my son has started his career with Con-Way Truckload and they are just as fair and great to work for. I sometimes wish that I had stayed with them instead of going back north for my wife's desire to be back home. They are among the best out there. Navypoppop
