Do traffic updates really work for Garmin GPS?

It is a truck GPS program that is based on PC Miler routing, was originally developed for laptop GPS systems, but it was converted to a Tablet/phone app. I have it and used it while training, and it was very close to the Navgo routing on my Qualcomm. The app costs $150 (least it did when I bought it) and the yearly subscription for traffic is $10

 

All I will say is ... once you get "Active Traffic" running, also download Google Maps App (free) and turn on the traffic overlay, and compare what Google says traffic is like to what Active Traffic says traffic is like in various situations. I think you will be surprised and will soon disregard "Active Traffic". I say this assuming Active traffic operates on the same data feed other traffic enabled GPS devices uses, which sucks. As far as I know, Google is still very protective of their traffic monitoring database, and for good reason. It beats every other traffic system, hands down.

 

as a frequent flyer of the los angeles, sacramento, phoenix, denver areas. active traffic as has been just as accurate as google maps.

it's also been just as reliable as google maps. neither one of them are perfect. both have been known to skip a beat once in a blue moon.

 

Actually google does not provide the traffic data, INREX does. And the traffic data is from cell phones with enable gps location turned on, on star, private fleet data, and anyone running one of their apps.

The Garmin traffic does give you a heads up on slow traffic ahead. It'll give you more of a warning to stopped traffic ahead, than all the trucks you see coming towards you.

 

I don't know what Google uses. All I know is Google Maps traffic is much more accurate and up-to-date then any traffic that comes through a Garmin or RM GPS. I don't think Google relies too heavily on Inrex, if any at all, other then for construction updates, and official law enforcement notices.
