    ABF takes a pay cut:

    YRC cuts wages and pension:
    http://online.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702304691904579345560953350686

Google UAW pay cuts. To many items to link.

Can you show me proof that I won't take a pay cut with union representation?

As noted above, you are the only one hearing what you want to hear. I'm looking for answers.

Side note, UPS pension in limbo, Teamster are blaming Hoffa for mis-information:
    https://www.tdu.org/news/ups-ibt-strand-teamsters-pension-limbo

Pension is 34 BILLION in debt and projected to be insolvent in 10-15 years.
    http://www.benefitspro.com/2013/07/22/teamsters-pension-plan-stuck-in-crisis

Not what I would call a guaranteed retirement fund.

I have to plead ignorance on this. My previous jobs, DOT fines were on the driver. I assumed Con-Way was the same. I haven't been inspected since I joined Con-Way. Coincidence?

My time line was a little off, and they are back to work, but six months of not working isn't an easy hurdle to clear.
    http://www.usw.org/news/media-cente...-ratify-contract-at-psc-metals-ending-lockout

I've given multiple examples of how there are still no guarantees with a union. I'll ask for the third time. What guarantees do I have that the union will improve my work place?

no one will guarantee you anything, however, they threw 60 million out there after they had the teamsters voted in. if they can afford that, why cant they afford your pension?

I will guarantee one think if those carriers took a pay cut it was voted on by the members and not forced down their throat at the dispatch window.

Your starting to contradict yourself. Will I get more pay, better benefits, and an improved work environment with a union?

Is it better to have a pay and pension cut forced down your throat at a negotiation table? I can't imagine it taste better knowing you approved it.....

Again, I'm not against the union, but I'd like to see some good reasons to unionize. In the links I posted above about the UPS and Teamster pensions, the union is blaming Hoffa and the UPS teamster for some of their own problems. Call me crazy, but I'd rather fight Con-Way, instead of fighting Con-Way, UPS, YRC, and other Teamsters. The union may fix a few problems, but they also bring more problems with them. A net gain of zero doesn't seem like a big enough improvement to vote union at this time.

Fact is : all union jobs are better jobs ....this should be a no brainer really ,for example when Conway has been settled ,there will be no more rotating start times ,no more walking on egg shells & jumping thru hoops , bottom line Conway will be a better place to work ....and btw how can any red blooded american be against democracy ? ...accept those who don't want to be held accountable for their crafty dis honest gain

He begins most of post by saying " I'm not against the Union" Horse pucky! He has ranted and raved about all the things he has been told are wrong with the Union. The vast majority are just here say at best. He obviously has no knowledge of organizing, contract negotiation, to include loose leaf contracts. The grievance procedure and the multiple levels that make up the system. The more he tries to expound on his vast knowledge, the more he shows how much he doesn't know.

I will be one of the first to admit that has Union flaws, but if you look at the alternative thee is no contest. Just people who have been told what to preach against the Union and know very lttle if any thing they have gained through personnel expierenc.

I know what it is lke to walk picket as a Union organizer, what it i like to get thumped in the head by company goons and get up and kick their A S S to to oblivion. I spent most of the Teamster years in local 299. Anyone that know much at all about 299 knows we have a proud reputation and most companies found that it was better to negotiate with 299 that to try to bulldoze your way through the picket lines. All things change and all changes are not for the better.

It's a no brainer, but I haven't seen a single person answer the question. How will the union improve my job?

What facts am I dodging? You said said no union would ever go backwards. I provided factual links that say other wise. Is that what you meant by union avoidance? Avoiding the fact that union jobs aren't always an improvement?

I'm not against the union. I'm against making changes that will cost me money or make my work enviroment worse. If I'm wrong, please show me.
If you go back and read my previous post, you'd see I spent 8 years in the Teamsters. Have you ever worked at Con-Way, or are the spooky stories you speak of just hearsay?
I don't know everything about unions. That's why I'm asking questions. Questions that are being avoided and go unanswered.

What have I preached about? I've asked questions, and provided evidence to support my side. I haven't made any false claims.

I've been accused of hearing what I want to hear, making up spooky stories, having no union experience or knowledge, preaching, dodging facts, and spreading hearsay. I haven't attacked anyone's character, or made anything up. Meanwhile, those that point the finger are doing the very things they accuse me of. I'm beginning to see the light.
