Question for Max Signal

Strongly considering getting your wireless mobile amplifier package for my truck, but one thing's bugging me. The antenna you supply is magnetic, and from my understanding with my past magnetic antenna, you need a fairly large "ground plane" or something like that. Well, it'd seem there's not a bit of magnetic material on my truck, at least somewhere I'd get reception. I actually had to pay the $8 for that little piece of steel they call "The Plate" for my Sirius, but I don't think that'd suffice as a ground plane. How would I go about mounting that on the outside of my truck. Is it going to hurt the wire to run it through the door like I do my Sirius and CB antenna? I drive a company truck, and I don't imagine they're too fond of me drilling holes (I'm not either, even on my personal vehicle).

 

Ok, I was apparently looking at one of the wired packages and thinking it was a wireless package for a vehicle.

Now, I'm looking at http://www.maximumsignal.net/xcart/product.php?productid=16217&cat=2&page=1 which has still a magnetic antenna.

To be honest, it's driving me a little nuts, and I'm considering going in the Pilot here and just paying their ripoff prices.

 

Then what did you stick it to on your truck. I'm in an '04 Century Class Condo and short of buying another "plate", there's not a place I can find that a magnet will stick to any higher than my fuel tanks. Perhaps I could shove it back on top of my securement boxes, but I think those are aluminum.

 

Just out of curiosity, how is the DBSW819 not strong enough when it says the gain is the max allowable by the FCC, the same as the other amplifiers?

Edit: I just want to clarify that I'm not trying to be a PITA here, I just thought that the same gain would work the same on both amplifiers.

 

Ok, I looked around a little bit and I think I have an understanding. The gain that is listed is only the gain on the external antenna part? It really doesn't make sense to me, since Cyfre's website even says 28dB gain, but perhaps the gain is on the originating signal, able to improve its quality/strength by 28dB? Then it only emits a small amount of power on the internal antenna?
