You used to be able to do what they call "gateway" a ld. through Canada and bring it back to the states.
You used to have to put the ld. in what they call a transit bond. Then cancel it when you crossed back into the states.
I have not done that in a lot of years, so things could of changed since then

it's shorter staying on 80/90, with less hassle.

My understanding is no you cannot do that. Had a few loads where that would have benefitted me, but company said its not legal.

I really don't know the answer to this.
But don't believe everything your company tells you. :biggrin_255:

i wouldn't want to go through the hassle of crossing 2 borders.

and doesn't the load have to have the proper documents to enter canada and back.

plus, do you even have your passport on board.

    Getsinyourblood and NavigatorWife Thank this.

Should be possible, but likely too much hassle to be worth while, truck and carrier needs proper licence for ontario, and border paperwork could be a hassle, most canadian loads from ontario heading to western canada, still run through canada, since its not worth the hassles going through usa

And you also have to have HOS for Canada met before you go into Canada, ie 24 hr break within 14 days. Not worth the hassle I don't think myself.

Don't need a 24 hr break as long as you don't go over 70 hrs in 8 days.
