Crude oil prices dropping is good for the consumer at the pumps, but the oil companies stop new drilling and that hurts the workers... when there is no abundant profit to be made they will simply operate to maintain (yet they will STILL make a very hefty profit!!!) Drilling companies, housing, service companies, and trucking all suffer.

oil or shale is defenitly not a job i want to be working right now.

opec has no intention of cutting production untill american companies all go bankrupt.

cheap gas is a boom to the economy, but interest rates will start to rise. and unemployment will also go up.

for years, my family has tried to get me to work for this big copper company we got in our backyard. problem, is there copper relies on the economy being in need of copper. when the economy goes south. the layoffs go north. not a very reliable long term employment prospect.

oil is the victim this time around. course, flatbed freight will also probably drop. could get scairy for flats and rates.

You've got to be kidding, You should easily be making over $1000/wk, if not taking home $1000/wk OTR today...Too many paying >.40cpm and that only takes 2500 miles to make $1000, 3000 miles to take home $1000...If you're not making that OTR, you need to look around, I'd say MOST are making that, if you're not, you need a change...Seriously, I wouldn't even wake up to drive a truck for $380/wk, not a shot...I wouldn't do any job for that pittance, definitely not trucking...

Smaller outfits will dry up, try to stay with the big dogs Haliburton/Baker Hughes, Hess, Nabors, Marathon, etc either work for them directly or get with companies that service their rigs. Prices always go up in the summer and drop in the winter anyway as it's more expensive to produce summer blend fuel. If it goes to $20 a barrel or something ridiculous then I’ll just relax for a few years until it goes back up. Bad part for me is I wanted to go offshore and work, but until the prices go up, it's going to be tight with hiring on their rigs and drill ships.

I glimpsed an article the other day that was calling for more regulations with trains hauling oil from fracking because of the derailments they have had across the nation, causing fires, evacuations, and people to loose their homes to fire. It might mean truckers would be in the running for hauling it OTR vs Railroad cars.

That is exactly what is going on right now. Looking new Drilling\fracking sites will cease however the ones that are still underway will keep on going until there's a steady follow pumping. Still need crude oil to be taking from wells to refineries as fuel to be hauled. America produces and exports the most diesel in the world. Less smalltime companies serevicing wells because they also depend on the new sites going up and housing so on and so forth, to maintain business. Just will have to diversify as far trucking goes get that hazmat endorsement or go back to pulling different trailer... Or stay making next to nothing. Personally I'd have to say I wouldn't work for 380$ a week nope...hell unemployment pays 550$.

    Will get through it.

If u haul crude,, no worries. Oil at $53 today. Will have to get close to $20 before they shut in wells. If ur in a service job like roundabouts or rig worker, get worried..some water hauling will slow down... As a crude hauler,, no worries

Yea...i wouldnt crawl in a trk for under 1k a week.. And it would kill me to do that.. Ive been making from $1700 to $2000 a week for over 4 years now..to make under a grand a week would be like getting kicked in the teeth

Ha... Big lake... Small world.. I work for Plains. Run between Big Lake and Mertzon
