Mmmm... I'll stick with my laptop for now... Just called and asked (because I have 2 companies, home and business) could I subscribe to QB and run both of the files off one subscription... Nope... Would have to subscribe twice. One for each company... AND if later I wanted to go back to a laptop version, I would have to purchase the latest version of QB to import all my info into... My system works, so I'm not going to mess with it (for now), but would still recommend QB for a small business accounting needs.

I don't see any problem with excel. Especially if you know how to use the formulas. Even better if you know how to integrate macros. (Which I'm not familiar with). I have used it for a few yrs.

If an accountant says it's a bad idea. Ask them why. Show me why it's wrong.
They only want your final numbers at the end of the yr. Unless you pay them to add everything up. Excel will add everything for you. I use a different tab for each month.
I even use it to figure if it's worth going after a load farther away than the rest. It tells me my income for every mty/lded mile faster than a calculator.

I would not want to pay for software that I didn't own. I looked at a couple of those several years ago. I would be concerned with security using a remote storage service.

Can you do your IFTA on Quickbooks?

I don't, but that's not saying it's not possible... Just can't picture that, but then I'm a plug and play type of person, not a programmer.

More and more states are going to electronic filing instead of having to do everything manually. If you put your miles and gallons into the software all you need do is print out an IFTA report at the end of the quarter and then transfer those numbers to your state IFTA account. The state does the calculations automatically. Then, you can print a hard copy and it will tell you whether you have a credit or need to send them a check. You can use a spreadsheet to do my IFTA. I even set up the tables to do all the calculations where all I had to do is manually transfer the numbers from my spreadsheet to the paper forms. I prefer printing a report from my software and then copying those to my state IFTA account. It is much faster the way I do now. I would not want to go back to using the spreadsheet and paper forms.

    Lady K Thanks this.

Quickbooks servers use encryption, enterprise class security, and multiple data and power redundancies. I know it's wierd to put your stuff on somebody elses machines but your data is FAR safer on their machines than in yours.

You can either create Fuel Accts for each state you travel and create a Fuel/Gal entry in your items list and track fuel that way or just create an acct called Fuel and create an item for each state which would be my preferred way.

Perhaps, but I still don't want my personal or business information on someone else computer system. I also don't want to pay a monthly fee. If you buy the software or use a spreadsheet, that is all you have to pay out. If you use an online service then you will always be paying them a fee.

Will it do your automatically record and track your miles? What about your driver qualifications file? Will it also track and print out quarterly maintenance reports?
