I'll end my intrusion of this Crete thread with 1 final thought on the matter...
Like I have stated before...trucking is an industry that allows a wide variety of career choices...there is no right or wrong, just which ever fits the drivers needs...it sounded a bit like your previous post was leaning a bit anti-OTR. I personally don't care for being a local driver, most long term OTR drivers don't. I prefer seeing the country and a little more than my local area, but if that's your choice...great...what ever works for you. No, I didn't get to tuck my kids in every night, but they had someone there 24/7 to tuck them in, feed them, wash their clothes make sure they had their homework done...even gave them an ear to talk to or a shoulder to cry on if necessary. My OTR job has allowed my wife the freedom to be a stay at home mom. (And she had the tougher of the 2 jobs in my opinion) now I am not going down the same road again about whether or not a 2 income family is right or wrong, better or worse...just not my family's choice...call it a family tradition...my parents were a 1 income family, my wife's family was a 1 income family, both my kids are married with children and are a 1 income family...and are doing just fine. So, if you don't mind, don't talk bad about OTR, because it is the only part of trucking many of us are comfortable doing. If you're not, fine...we wish you success in what ever choices you make.

Absolutely, I have no problem with otr guys. Same here for my intrusion, a question was asked and I answered. I just try to promote being local just for the sense of a life. Thanks and sorry my post sounded like a bash fest.

I was just trying to guide this person. They mentioned they wanted a "life" as well. I fully understand Crete is otr. I worked at Shaffer 2 years before I got my first local gig. It was nothing to stay out 5 weeks at Shaffer but even back then I felt I had no life. So im not just coming in and bashing but just simply replying to this person.Goldenfan, Knucklehead619 and 48Packard Thank this. -
Fair enough.

Kicking down the door and taking names. Majesnut (Dang auto correct) it's amazing how you local cats like to talk about this great life. But you on the truckers report at 1 in the morning. Now key up the national anthem back ground music. The life of the otr driver is to keep America moving. To keep a roof over his loved ones heads. To sacrifice his life for his/her country and for the world. To keep the local cats warehouses fully stocked so after a long 14 hr day with only 50 miles logged they can go home after sitting in more traffic and watch big brother. Yippee ki freaking yay mother trucker. Enjoy your life. I'm back quiet

OTR is definitely needed, what I do is a small part. -
I don't understand career otr guys with wives and kids. This job isn't fun. If you can stay out for nearly a month or more at a time for years, your home life must be crap. I've only been on here and driving a little over a year, but I hear from a lot of guys that can at least get a home every weekend deal after a few years. There's no life driving OTR.

I wasn't intending for this to turn into a **** storm.
It's a good thread to read. Crete's not for me with the home time they offer. So back on track hopefully.
Dark_Majesty_06 Thanks this. -
Your job is not to understand why others choose to do certain jobs. Just because we have many years under our name. Doesn't mean we have been otr all that time. We been there and done that. And we did it very well I might add. Now just because I am OTR spokesman of the decade today. Doesn't mean I won't dabble in some p&d ltl work tomorrow. It sure wouldn't be because I wanted a life. Rolling is in the blood. Some have it, some don't. So mine your beeswax about others relationships. Hold that wheel and figure out how you can be the best at it. That my friend is the beginning of Superness!! Your apology is accepted. Don't let it happen again.Bigcountry8079, DrtyDiesel, Bumper and 2 others Thank this.
