In your guesstimation, I have been an "assistant/caretaker" for my parents for almost 15 years and am thinking ahead, would this likely be considered unemployed or "other"? I have read that most companies that would accept this would need notarized letters that I was not in jail and am not planning world domination and I have several neighbors that would definitely do that. How long back would likely to be far enough to be considered (example if I go work a parts counter for a year, but they would want 5 years non driving, would i need to work another 3-4 years before being considered)? Thanks

Ok, I'm a company hand but I do think about leasing at times. I have noticed that some of the other outfits with many Lease drivers (Schneider/Swift/etc) are running 65 -70.
How are they able to be decently profitable at that speed?

Depends on what your definition of "decently profitable" is.

I've had this problem since I retired. FMCSA does not recognize "not working because of retirement," even with a pension plus a Social Security check as income. It's a foreign status to them. Instead, if an applicant isn't gainfully employed, the applicant is 'unemployed.'

Omit anything that has to do explicitly with a permit student, but order of activities is very similar. Everything happens at the terminal, you'll be put up at a motel, and food is in restaurants. After you get your fuel card/ID on the third day, you'll be getting assigned a TnT trainer (inexperienced CDL holder,) or looking for a truck (experienced CDL holder.)

Might want to report back on how it goes.

    jdmredneck33 Thanks this.

Luckily, I get my insurance through my wife's job. The insurance options discussed during the orientation week were uniformly expensive. The rates for company drivers for the first year ranged (IIRC) from around $75 a week for a single person to $250 per week for family. Those of rough numbers from memory so I may be off a bit. We were told the rates went down significantly after the first year.

Those numbers are pretty high for sure. Was that total for medical, dental, and vision? My cost for the medical as a first year driver is $58/week. My total per week for medical, dental, vision, life, and disability combined was about $80/week.
Prime has a very good insurance plan that I would recommend for a company driver. To get the same medical coverage out in the open market was going to be $60-80/month more. Plus the coverage through Prime is a multi state which is very helpful when you are on the road like we are.

    Chucktshoes and andytalllurch Thank this.
