Yall are forgetting he said he hasn't even been to school yet. Give the man a chance to learn that stuff first. Im sure he will realize that by the time he gets his own truck.

I agree Razorwyr, just didn't want him coming in expecting those kind of miles, getting mad and then quitting, blaming the company, yeah that would be a first.

main point is not to forget about Per diem pay, it's all up to me with a first impression and 650 a day is a leisurely pace after driving 2500 miles in three days in a yaris. I've read enough to know the pros and cons and for the next few months Stevens appears to be my best choice.

I hope you realize that per diem pay is already included in your cpm And not in addition to it

Not trying to be mean here, but 2500 miles in a Yaris and 2500 miles in a semi are two completely different things. That's like saying I've driven 800 miles in a day before, so I'm ready to drive a racecar for 4 hours at 190 mph. A truck rides rougher than a car, its not as comfortable as a car, you have a LOT more you are focussing on in a truck, etc. My point is, it is going to tire you out faster than you think. It might not the first day, or the second, but it is hard work and until you build your body up to handle it, it will wear you out. The biggest thing is just to recognize the signs that you are getting tired and making sure you find a parking space BEFORE you get to tired to drive, because by then its too late. You will get used to the long days in the seats, but its not something that you will just be able to do without being sore and tired when the day is done to start with. It does take time to build up that stamina.

Not only is the per diem already figured into your pay, but it isn't given to you by Stevens, its given to you by the federal government and the IRS. It SOUNDS great, but all that it actually is, is that the IRS allows you to claim $59/day, or whatever it is, tax free for food (or you can write off your actual food expenditures, but most people don't eat $59/day worth of food so its easier and smarter to use their math since you can't pick and choose the day you are going to use, its all or none) so Stevens says they are giving you per diem, which really just means they aren't taxing you on $59/day. It's just less money they take from you, not more that they give you.

It's actually 80% of $59 per day, or $47.20 you can claim.
