Why is Kenworth using Paccar if their reputation is so bad?

    No we have the 10 speed auto shifts. most of our trucks are 2011-2013. We get new trucks in the next few months since a lot of our are reaching 600k miles.

    Corporate said they're testing 12 speed autos so we will know by the end of this year if they are going to move to those or not. I just don't like autos in general.
    Hopefully the newer ones you're talking about fix the issues I have with them which are that they hesitate a lot, very slow to react to what you're wanting to do. Most won't allow me to start in any gear higher than 2nd, although some will let you start in 3rd. I just miss swinging a shifter, I've thought about quitting because I get so frustrated driving these trucks but the people I work with and how I'm treated are the main reason I'm still here.

    IF I was in your neck of the woods, and never ran into Cali. Gliders would be a no brainer!

    Exactly. We only run east coast and the only guys who run all 48 our maybe 5 or 6 chemical drivers based out of TN.

    Thats the only thing there in the shop for best motor available today.

    I've heard someone say that excessive idling can contribute to emissions problems. I think that makes a lot of sense. Long idling will cause soot build up, and challenge the system.

    Exactly what is a glider? Is it an aftermarket emissions replacement system?

    A truck without the drivetrain, or just without the motor, depending on what options you pick. You then install the motor/drivetrain of your choice.

    It makes perfect sense to me, I was not happy with the DD13's when we first got them, (I still think mileage could be better) but after we got some issues sorted out I have come to appreciate the motor, and I always preferred Cummins in the past.

    Although we are running all 2010's, which of course are suppose to have major emission issues compared to the 2011 up DEF units, I can tell you we have had only a handful of emissions issues after the first go around. We are quickly approaching 700,000 miles on some of these trucks and they still don't burn hardly any oil between changes, maybe a quart or two, we service at 25,000 (half of what is recommended) but I also expect to see 900,000 without major issues.

    However, we idle VERY little, we have mostly long runs, so I for one am actually looking forward to our next trucks, probably 2016's if they are that much improved over our 2010's we should have no problems, and better mileage.

    Now, if you are idling a lot, esp. with pre 2011's, yes, I can see that causing big problems.

    Glider is basically a brand new truck, built on the same assembly line as any new truck, but usually they are ordered without power or with pre emissions power, they carry a lower price tag, and less headaches and maintenance than a comparable new "emissions" truck.

    As long as Cali. is not a destination state on your cab card it can be a good deal, but because of the pre emissions motors they are not welcome in Cali.

    Basicly,you need lots off heat in the exhaustsystem.

    So now you have a glider. what drive train is installed to comply with emissions?
