Kinda Suks that you can't buy genuine quality American bearings from them.But I am sure you could go size them at a good bearing house and maybe find some. I am leery of the China Crap lately , A couple jobs I have done on my personal vehicle have failed because of Cheap China Crap.
3500 for a rebuilt off the shelf with a core for a trade sounds steep now that I hear there is not much to rebuilding one as far as hours and parts.

input shaft, input gear, both counter shaft drive gears, the direct/ overdrive sliding clutch, range gear or splitter gear
So did you replace all these parts when you did your rebuild and were they all visually bad ? -
