3 weeks vacation time, 6 days personal time, 2 flex days for a total of 23 paid days off a year. Not counting holidays. Making 19.50 an hour. My top out is close to $30 an hour, but with only a 3 percent raise a year, Ill never see it. I sit on my rear all night, getting up only occasionally to punch a few numbers in a machine. The catch is I have to put up with people I hate (people who would throw their own mother under the bus), work 3[SUP]rd[/SUP] shift, and look at the same 4 dirty walls for all of eternity. By a lot of peoples standards its a dream job. But Im so ready to throw it away and I dont really understand why. For some reason I guess I would rather spend my nights and days in some warehouse parking lot or a TS somewhere. Is there something wrong with me?
Just had to throw this up in writing. That way a few years from now I can revisit this and then maybe Ill know the answer.
Am I outta my mind?

You're not losing your mind. This is a big reason why driver turnover is so high. Squalid work conditions that many people just don't see the point In Putting up with.

Learn to tune them out like dispatchers do drivers. You can do it.

Get your CDL with all the endorsements and hit the road; you will never regret it.
When I switched to hazmat/tankers didn't have to sit in crummy warehouse parking lots. Didn't have to hang around truckstops waiting for loads either; just stayed there for a 10 hr. break, shower, meals.
You can start your trucking career making over $60K in hazmat/tankers.
I drove at night as much as I could. Loved the solitude; turn the dash lights down low, XM radio, hot thermos of coffee, set the cruise control and relax. Ideally, pull in to a truckstop for some sleep just before dawn. -
I also understand your dilemma Danvitt can't stand being stuck in
a building and 3rd shift also. Worked with people that looked like
Robots and thats what swayed me. Personally I enjoy the view of
the outdoors, sunrise and sunset and everything in between. Always
live each day as if its your last because one day it will be(food for thought). -
T_TRUCKER⢠Thanks this.
