I have heard that Gordon recruits about 100 people for orientation but only keeps about 40. Is this true?
Thanks,
Donna

Yes, they wash out because of failed physicals/drug tests and lies on their apps.

It's the same everywhere. People have something bad in their background and try to hide it, thinking a background check won't find it. Until they learn it does. Then it's back on the bus...

And, by the end of 1 year, how many of those will be on the job ?

There is a lot of turnover in this industry during a driver's first year first year. It's a career the likes of which exist nowhere else and whether you will stay for a year depends on you and circumstances and experiences you have not yet experienced.
The best you can do is stop looking at the cents-per-mile as the sole or even major factor deciding where to go. It is important, yes, but there is much to learn and you are not going to make much as a first year driver until you prove yourself. This is not a salaried career field and you aren't paid by the hour. Try to discern what factors are important to you and seek a company that offers most of them.
When you do find your first job, stay a year, no matter how tough -- and it WILL be tough; that's why most new drivers leave and many drop out of trucking altogether. The most important factor an employer looks for is reliability and performance. Stay a year and you will have proven that you can get freight from here to there across multiple time zones on time without damaging the freight or their truck and trailer. Your advancement options will expand greatly.
Good luck.knuckledragger Thanks this.
