    Kinda Suks that you can't buy genuine quality American bearings from them.But I am sure you could go size them at a good bearing house and maybe find some. I am leery of the China Crap lately , A couple jobs I have done on my personal vehicle have failed because of Cheap China Crap.

    3500 for a rebuilt off the shelf with a core for a trade sounds steep now that I hear there is not much to rebuilding one as far as hours and parts.

    That is the problem. They dont replace something that didnt fail. I called 5 different reman shops. They said they replaced what was bad, and the input shaft, input gear, both counter shaft drive gears, the direct/ overdrive sliding clutch, then the rebuild kit that is all the bearings and seals. They do not replace the range gear or splitter gear in the back half. I found one place that had a factory new 18918B for $6500. If I was to spend money, thats what I would have bought.

    So did you replace all these parts when you did your rebuild and were they all visually bad ?

    The only ones of those I did not replace were the rear box gears, the range and splitter gears. They were ok for me to use again, but if I was spending more money, I would want those replaced as well.

    What was all the metal from ? What let loose? A bearing?

    If you look at the first pic you will see the input gear stripped. I drove it over 120 miles with only direct high and low to get it home. Now what caused the total faiure could be MANY things. It never wanted to go into and stay in direct since I bought the truck two years ago. I did not see any visible damage on any bearing in the trans. When I changed the clutch there was a spring loose in between the disks. The clutch didnt look so happy. It was evident it was abused once I had everything back together. I used to have trouble slipping the clutch to move real slow. It would keep bucking every time I tried to slip it. Now it is super smooth. No problem creeping. It slips in and out of gear real nice now.
