Does Shaffer / Crete give you guys good company directions to destinations? Do they just give you local directions or do they plan your whole route and expect you to stick to that route? Do they plan your fuel stops?

So did they do the sleep test? I read on another thread about the whole sleep test was just curious of they do it and how it works.

They give you a Route Suggestion for the whole trip. Note Suggestion. They do plan your fuel stops but I don't use them if impractical. I call My terminal for new fuel solutions.

Sleep studies are done at the Days Inn near the New Kingstown, PA terminal. At the Wilmer, TX terminal. And at Salt Lake City, don't know exactly where at SLC. Sleep Pointe administers the test at all 3 locations I believe.

So what exactly is the reason behind the sleep test and how do they decide who has to do it?

To see if you have sleep apnea and they decide by your "neck size" or basically whoever is fat.

That's rather stereotypical. I've not been in the trucking industry in 5 years. Do a lot of companies do that now?

Appt times have varied, but that's the nature of reefer and you will see that at ANY company that runs reefer. We could run what Crete calls "super-solo", 19 hrs max in a day. We basically swapped days, or both drove if the need arose. Now that I'm solo, things are good so far. Will be a couple hours late for this run to FL, but had to get reworked on the 2nd p/u (shipper tried to put an extra 3,500 on the tail end - I scaled at 79,500 with only a 1/4 tank of fuel n tandems were over 37k lol) so I think that's where I lost the time, plus roadwork on I-40 in AR. Everybody had to stop n play rock paper scissors to see who got to merge first, or so it seemed...

Thinking about finding someone to team with...road sucks by yourself...

As far as NYC, even though we are "forced dispatch", you can refuse a NYC load with no problems. If you take it, they do pay an extra $100 for your troubles...

On sleep apnea...it's probably the biggest safety issue facing the industry. If you're not getting enough rest when you sleep, you're more likely to nod off during the day. We have a hard enough time driving these 70 foot long, 40 ton machines after a good night's sleep. Fall asleep behind the wheel for even a second...we've all seen the pics on Facebook...
