What's the going rate for labor on an overhaul in your area? Not parts... just labor.
I located another diesel shop near me (ATL) and the guy (37 years experience) says he will overhaul any CAT, DET or CUMM for $2000; plus the cost of the overhaul kit, fluids and any additional parts or machine shop work he can't do. I was wondering if $2000 is comparable to other shops in your area.
I'm getting ready to buy my 3rd truck (359 or 379) and I'm considering an older, project truck that would need to have an overhaul.
Labor costs on an overhaul in your area?

sounds cheap it would probably run about 5k labor around here.
-
I got to get my #%% to North Dakota!!35-38 hours is the normal labor charge.
-
2 thou is close to what non dealer shops charge in GA.
-
We get 2500 labor on CAT, Cummins, and Non EGR Detroits in a "hood". That includes shop supplies or consumables and counter boring and setting liner protrusion.
Ezrider_48501 and Harold196 Thank this. -

Best I could tell that shop gets 112 an hour. We get 68. Also a Mack takes a little longer than most but still neighbor hood of 3000 would catch it for the work they done. I didn't look at the time standard on the job but looked like they put around 47 hours in it.

I had a guy do an M11 a couple years back. He charged 40 hrs to do sleeves, pistons, rods and mains.

your right 112 per hr
part a is dash recall work
part b starts on the first page and most all the second page witch is the first image is the overhaul
to summorize part b
complete inframe
new pistions rings
rod and main bearings
new cyl heads
cut counterbores and shim
install new liners
replace injectors
new thermostat
in that section they also have replacing a ac line and re charging ac.
labor for that section $5376 @ 112 per hr so 48 hrs
also on the invoice part c is repairing a oil leak at the filter pedestal and oil pressure codes. replace oil pressure sensor ect bumps the total labor on the invoice to 6048.00 total parts 7464.05 + 300.00 shop supplies
i wish there was some place around here that would do work for 68 per hr i do pretty much all my own work because pretty much everyone is 100+ around here. a few places have split rates like 90 for regular stuff like breaks u joints and stuff that a mechanic with a couple month's experience can handle then 100-110 for everything else.Last edited: Feb 21, 2015
