1gb is for the processor its equipped with only 16gb internal for apps and os features. When all is said n done you'll have less then 5gb for own apps. Not practical. You can add a SD card for videos n pictures

    Just a little FYI.

There are a lot of these tablets on the market and many of the manufacturers offer a boiler plate system with different packaging for companies to market as their own.

You can go to a website, find a manufacturer in China, talk to them about making a unit for you, have them make a few, test them and then order them. They will put your name on it, make the package with different paint or plastic, have the features you want to have and make it look like no other on the market.

After you work with them to fix the bugs, you can place an order and have them ship anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand but no matter what, they are all the same when you come down to it.

The following is my personal opinion, formed and based on my experience with Rand McNally products.

It seems that like several of previous electronic devices RM had designed and produced, this unit is still in a beta stage.

It seems that they have moved it to market to claim "first" but have not finished debugging the device.

From some of the pictures and units I have had the chance to try. ( loves and pilots have some) This is a less than rugged product.
I do not predict a long life span for the hardware.

While boasting the most current Android OS, it is running and old chip set. The A7 processor is very old by industry standards.
( My old netbook was running an A7 processor)

The hardware is not that current, In bulk purchase from an overseas vendor, the cost per unit would be about US$30.00 per.

That makes the bulk of the price of the unit Rand McNallys software.

I just can't justify spending that amount of money on old technology and beta software. plus having to be an uncompensated beta tester.

Just curious here, how much did Kevin Rutherford pay RM to get the apps loaded on this unit?

( I would certainly hope RM didn't pay him) (also don't get me started on that topic)

Where are you getting your "specs" from? 1gb???? I would actually type in www.randmcnally.com then go to Truck GPS then down to Tablet. Amazing,,, information..

As posted prior you are not getting Beta Software. You are not a uncompensated Beta Tester. This is old ground from the TND.

Any product put out is never 100% and never issue free. Look at all the car recalls. Look at all the computer updates Mac and PC's put out. Issues will be found and they will be fixed. Let's not get into this "Beta" issue again.

I suppose all the other GPS manufactures never do software updates?

...it was a typo on my part. I was thinking more about driving down i75 and finding ice patches more than I was thinking about the specs. If the memory was only 1gb, I would not even bother giving this a first look. Let alone a post.

Wasnt posting and driving...I swear. Just thinking about it. Never got around to fixing it or posting it was a typo.

    Mark Kling Thanks this.

By the way, something I eventually found that wasn't posted on their site. The camera has a 120 degree angle. Not positive that'll keep both bug mirrors in sight even if you can get the right position, but it isn't a bad range.

I'm interested in it mostly the dash-cam feature, but having the rest all-in-one would make this far more valuable to me even if I wouldn't use it consistently.

So apparently I would have had to return it on thursday for the refund, yes this is ta's 10 day return policy not randmcnally's the fact remains I can exchange a broken one for a new one that still isnt up to snuff, I hardly see how this is a reasonable return timeframe For a 500$ piece of equipment, maybe it's fine in good weather with a normal load, but I have restrictions on travel time and location (86 foot crane beam) and had 2 days worth of delays since the screen itself broke (at the 7 day mark)

Contemplating just running her over at this point, may as well have set 500$ on the pavement and set fire to it
