    I think I get what you're saying.

It is almost a universal rule in sports to look where you want to go & not where you don't: If you're mountain biking on rugged singletrack, you want to look at your line & not that giant rut. If you focus on avoiding a tree well when snowboarding, you'll probably start heading that way.

So while it is good to be aware of your minimum revenue needs, it's probably better for your business to focus on getting the maximum possible.

There's no doubt that one can certainly overdo it. On the other hand, with a well designed set of linked spreadsheets, just entering a handful of numbers each week will yield a wealth of information with little effort.

Most days we take a look at the map instead of just pointing the ol' girl down the road and sayin' giddy-up. Your financial life shouldn't be any different. If you set a goal of $100k net revenue and working 250 days, at some point you need to figure out how its going to happen.

250 days a year is 5 days a week every week, only off for weekends and 5 holidays....that sounds like a lot of work. Way more work than I want to do. Just doin that math you all like so much ;)

5 days a week, 50 weeks a year is the standard work week. That should be a nice change from the 330-340 days I have been working...

You ain't kiddin' bro! Just moving from mileage pay to percentage was a welcome break; less miles and more money has been very welcome. I'm on a bit different path, but when the tractor payment goes away in a few weeks I'll be a lot more apt to take a day off on a weekly basis.

Part of this "freedom" stuff is the freedom to kick back, and not work.

Great response DenaliDad- That is what people should remember here, take away the meat and throw away the bones.

Almost everything in life is a negotiation, the better at it you are in business or life -then it is less likely you are the sucker in the room, because if you can't figure out who the sucker is well...........guess who is:biggrin_2558: Also remember there is a lot of competition and it spits out the weak, this is business getting

good info, and sharing saving us from reinventing the wheel.

Just learned how to plot elevation profiles in Google Earth. Here is an example of how it might affect your routing:

Pilot in Dunnigan, CA to Flying J in Lebec, CA via

    I-5:
    I5.jpg

    CA99:
    99.jpg

Ask around at any California truck stop and almost everyone prefers I-5: it is 3 miles shorter, CHP is more lenient of 60+ mph speeds, and traffic density is lower. But as you can see from Google Earth, I-5 runs right against the coastal range which results in an additional 1700 feet in total elevation gain compared to Highway 99, which stays in the Central Valley. Sure, at 6 mpg those 3 extra miles cost 1/2 a gallon, but it takes more than 1/2 gallon of diesel to climb 1700 feet. And if you're a fuel miser, you're probably going 58mph or less which means, outside of rush hour, you'll be the slowest thing on 99.

    To find elevation profiles:

    1) Download google earth
    2) Type in your destination in the search field
    3) click "get directions"
    4) Type in your origin
    5) right-click anywhere on the highlighted route and select "show elevation profile"
