I know right, like PP couldn't afford to send him a new motor and come out as hero's. But no, his ego most likely won't allow that.

Just looking at the Track My Truck page. Either it's filled with TTR members, or the tide has started to change. People are now pointing to the real culprits here, Kevin Rutherford and Pittsburg Power. The damage to that engine is astonishing. It's almost like they made it up as they went along and had no clue as to what they were doing. How much do you think this will actually hurt PP? Kevin doesn't care much, he'll say he had nothing to do with it

Hammer166 and Bean Jr. Thank this.

I would be interested in finding out two things. 1. How hot did the engine get with the head all stopped up with corrosion? 2. Since the engine is a reman, mic the crank to see if it had a turned crank in it and someone put standard bearings back in it.

There is a lot of wear on all the bearings right in the center and not spread out very far.

I'm not posting on the Facebook site, but if someone is could these questions be asked of them?

I'm sure there are many TTR members (and of other similar forum sites) finding it, along with many others that just happen to be on FB too.

What's really unfortunate, in my opinion, is that too many people rush into these bleeding edge scenarios without fully understanding that it will be their own blood all over the floor when it goes badly. It really doesn't matter if it's a mega-horsepower build, mega-mpg build, or some other extraordinary configuration. Any time you step out of normal boundaries and specifications for any reason, risk goes way up.

I really admire the truck owners for pressing for a solution and not just putting on a victim hat and giving up. Clueless as they may have been when they placed the order and paid, they are actually stepping through it the hard way and solving the problems in order to achieve what they were after in the first place. The fact that they are willing to dig deep financially to achieve this doesn't make them stupid just because you wouldn't do it. It's something that comes with the territory out there on that bleeding edge. Even more kudos to them for sharing their journey.

IMO KR is just like any other consultant. In a decade of managing large scale I/T roll-outs, I encountered many of them. The demotivator from despair dot com tells it like it is: "If you're not a part of the solution, there's good money to be made in prolonging the problem." At the end of it all, these guys do bring some value to what they touch. The problem is that they have no real stake in it other than their paycheck and credibility towards securing their next gig. Like it or not, KR's advice (in this case, I'll give you that much) has not been proven one way or another. The only thing that's been established in my opinion is a build with very poor quality control. Sure, the whole package has his thumbprint on it. I'm also sure nobody was holding a gun to the owner's head forcing them to nod up and down and write the checks.

In fact, the way the owners have handled the news throughout this build is evidence they knew they were stepping into unproven and risky territory and are absolutely not victims. The advice I've given I/T clients about this sort of thing is, "If you want to be a Pioneer, get ready to face a bunch of angry Indians." With all the hateful and off the cuff comments about this whole project, it's clear there's a lot more angry Indians around here than Pioneers. The only thing that attitude does is stifle innovation. If you don't want to risk your personal wealth in pursuit of bleeding edge benefits, then don't. Just don't try to elevate yourself in the mean time by pushing these people down. Unless you've opened your wallet and bought into the program, you've got no stake to stand on to celebrate their failure.

What's astonishing to me is that none of the stakeholders KR, PP, and lets not forget the add-on product suppliers, who have not stepped up to own a piece of the solution. As obviously (and you can see I am Captain Obvious today!) costly this thing is to their collective reputations, handled well, this could be even more valuable. Handled well and driven to success, this thing would have customers lining up at their door to get on a list. Never mind going out of pocket $30,000 to overnight a fresh long block to Iowa. For about $3,000/mo they could have put the owners in a Penske rental to enable them to resume their business while this gets hashed out for a positive outcome. Seriously, one month would probably be enough. The glider supplier probably has a few trucks on the sale lot that would do nicely also, while offering a promotional opportunity. At least something that demonstrates less belly button gazing and finger pointing, and more problem solving. Shame on all the other stakeholders for completely missing an opportunity to turn a lemon into millions of dollars.

    RedForeman,

Very eloquent, and wrong, lol. Well, let's just say I disagree.

Ripping people off is not the bleeding edge of Pioneering, it's the oldest game going.

So you believe Rutherford is a legit consultant, and the reason this particular project failed was not bad consultation but simply the inherent risks associated with being so revolutionary ?

I believe Rutherford is no consultant at all. If Rutherford WANTED to be an expert consultant on fuel economy he surely could be by now.

If he WANTED to be an expert he would be aware of the excellent, well documented results people are getting with the ISX CM871 by understanding and managing correctly the ECM and emissions system. He doesn't WANT to know that because it's not a simple pat answer and he will lose 3/4 of his audience if he talks about anything more technical than put on Michelin's and get a scanguage.

If he WANTED to be an expert he would have researched the claims that Microblue wears off within 5,000-10,000 miles with normal engine temps, but he didn't want to be an expert, he wanted to be a MicroBlue salesman.

If he WANTED to be an expert he would have realized time have paid attention to what PP does, rather than thinking about how to get a piece of their action.

He NEVER WANTED to be an expert on anything except having a good rap to use to sell products. I've talked to some of these "masters" from his CMC who don't even know what their cpm is, they don't even know how to figure if it's worth waiting a day for a $3200 load or take a $2400 load today. These aren't ordinary followers of his, they are his shining students !

There's nothing bold or revolutionary about a slick sales job.

Besides which, as the man himself says over and over and over... He's been working with Detroit Diesel's and fuel mileage for 20 years. This shouldn't be an experiment. Building a DD 12.7 for fuel mileage is supposed to be his expertise, and you say this doesn't disprove him ?? Exactly what would it take to disprove or discredit Rutherford then ? The man who claims to be the foremost authority on fuel mileage with the DD 12.7, the owners followed his advice to the letter and got crap fuel mileage and a bricked engine at 100,000 miles. Bold, bleeding edge Pioneering, eh ?
