I is so glad you called him a poster and not a driver. He makes me edit myself as he works in Lincoln and has never seen the inside of a truck.

So, xlsdraw, basically, you're working harder for he same, miles pay? And the only thing edging Shaffer over is detention. How often do you actually get it? Is it a significant part of your monthly pay?

Detention has been paid every time since the new policy went into effect 1/1/15. Detention pay is not significant at all. Running less miles and less restful with Shaffer. Less restful due to a lot of 15 to 20 hr breaks waiting for pickup and delivery appt times to arrive. Since I find myself unable to sleep more than probably 9 hrs, that means I start my 14 hr clock often after already being awake for 6 or more hrs. Thus my sleep schedule gets flip flopped often and many times your still driving 20 hrs or so after waking. The only way I see that it could be said that Shaffer could have an edge would be if the miles were equal but they are not. So to this point, I see Crete as a better experience.

You can get miles at Shaffer BUT it's not worth the reefer experience.
If I could do it all over again I would have gone with Crete over Shaffer.

The reason is simple, reefer lifestyle SUCKS! and the pay doesn't make up the different for a worse lifestyle.

Crazy appointment times and dealing with lazy lumpers that take forever.. plus reefer wash outs.
I was living on energy and sleeping pills when I was with Shaffer to manipulate my sleep schedule to make my appointment times.
I got miles and made money but I hated my life lol.
If Crete pays .45 it would take Shaffer to pay .55 for me to even consider doing reefer.
The extra few cents doesn't make a difference when you consider the time wasted dealing with appointment times for live load/unloads with stupid lumpers half the time vs open window drop and hook freight. Plus time lost also getting a wash out. The time in line and time spent getting a trailer wash out you don't get paid for.

All in all it's not a bad place, I always said I got miles and I'm glad to see xlsdraw is getting miles also.

God, I forgot about washouts... These companies love to overlook the things you need to do that you don't get paid for.

So, fair to say reefer is for chumps?

Ralph isn't the only Crete driver that claims that level of production. Even on elogs, which I have always been on. These guys that accomplish this are not home much. It takes 328 days at the 434.69 that I averaged with Crete to reach Ralph's #s. Still leaving him 37 days off per year. Some guys are ok with that. Last I checked there were still some drivers on paper also. Does Crete post the mileage of their overall Driver of the Year? The only one I've met that claimed to have won that once was an elderly long time Crete driver that was still on paper. And he claimed he regularly did 140k miles per year and it took 150k miles to get the DOY award.

I am finding that Shaffer is extremely reluctant to allow a driver to switch to Crete.

Another observation. Crete/Shaffer's recent xm radio ad campaigns are claiming: an average of 2900 miles with Crete for FULL weeks out and 2700 miles with Shaffer for FULL weeks out. Crete's 2900 × .45 = $1305.00 and Shaffer's 2700 × .48 = $1296.00. Again, essentially a wash from an income perspective.
A FULL week out (7 days), is modest #s: Crete 414.28 miles per day and Shaffer 385.71 miles per day.
With Crete and Shaffer, I have averaged 20/21 miles per day more than the advertised #s. Doing 434.64 with Crete and 406.86 with Shaffer.
