Millis has cameras in their trucks, facing the driver.
They lied to us too, claiming the camera just records in 30 second loops. What they didn't tell us is that they can also watch you live, just like "Face Time" on your iphone.
They sometimes watch for hours at a time.
I'm not sure how many cameras they can watch at one time. I suspect they have guys watching screens with as many as 36 cameras being viewed on a split screen at one time.
You've all seen those security camera screens. This is the same thing on a more expensive scale.
New Camera System Coming to all company trucks.

I want a job at Mills.
Must be the ultimate job in trucking , watching drivers for hours , up to 36 at a time.
I'm sure I would need therapy after a week and probably a brain sanitize.
I know the drivecam units we have do not have the option of watching drivers at will and only downloaded anomalies triggered by acceleromitors or driver button request are viewed. -
A few years back we had this type of camera installed on our teenager's car (through our insurance company) when she first started driving. Not sure of all the specifics, but if she did anything out of the ordinary, like slam on her brakes, speed up too fast, jerk her wheel, etc we would get an email with a video clip of the 20 seconds before & after the incident - driver facing and forward facing video's. It was a good tool for us parents of new drivers, and our teen liked being able to push the button to record & email the previous 20 seconds when her little brother was being a jerk. Never did get a video of her picking her nose though, we would have saved that one.

Its funny how I see people that never post in the swift treads all of the sudden coming here in droves defending In cab facing cams. Just something I noticed.
IMHO outwards facing cams and outside side cams would be best thing for both driver and company. In cab facing cams just too 1984 and I do not believe or trust people when they say there only going to be able to see 10 second before and after (an event). They can and will have live feeds, Its 2015 real time streaming media is very cheap this day and age.
I know company drivers its not there truck. But say you rent a home. The owner of the home say I am going to put cams in your bedroom, bathroom, living room and all entry ways, Just to make sure if there is any damage to the home when you move out we will have in on video. But not to invade your privacy. I believe you would move out of that home asap.
No different this the in cab facing cams. the inside of that truck is our home that is were we live. Some for months on end. We should be allowed some dignity. Why do people believe otr company truck drivers do not deserve dignity in our work life and our personal life?Last edited: Apr 9, 2015

This is how they get their foot in the door like a Vampire cannot come into your home unless you invite them formally. They start out with 'it only records 10 seconds before after'. Once it goes live in all trucks they flip the switch and it records 100% of the time live streaming back to headquarters.
Remember when they were still installing the qualcomm elogs, we were told to run our logs just the same as we did paper-- meaning 15 minutes on-duty when you arrived at customer then go off duty til time to leave no matter what you were doing, no one ever said a word back in the paper days. Once they went live across the entire fleet with the elog, boom we had to be on-duty the entire time at customer unless you could leave customer or go to sleeper.Switches Thanks this. -
Swift may or may not follow through with this. They passed out significant raises in the past year claiming driver retention as the motive. If they install driver-facing cameras, I predict a mass exodus of 4,000 to 5,000 within the first 60 days. You would think they realize that, huh? Maybe not.
Interplanet Janet, spectacle13 and Buckeye91 Thank this. -
Switches and scottied67 Thank this.

I'm assuming that they will probably end up doing this. but I wonder if it's going to be just for company drivers or also the lease purchase / owner operators when and if they do implement this.Last edited: Apr 9, 2015
