That's all this is too really, except you do it consistently for 8 hours.

I just quit them and went back to a company I drove for before my cdl. But I can say they done exactly what they said, if you want regional or otr they will make it happen from day one. Decent pay I had an awesome trainer and nice equipment. I just want/need local work.

The way that the terminal I work out of (Dallas, TX) give you the option of how much you work. Twice I week I call a number and tell them whether or not I work the next few days. You can work as much as you want/need.

That is Dallas terminal. YOURS MAY BE DIFFERENT!!!!

EDIT: This is because I'm a casual. They do have full-time dockworkers as well. Those guys have regular shifts (as far as I can tell).

I'm guessing the terminal I applied to is going to be/will be getting busy...as their doing a several million dollar expansion.

Anything new is somewhat intimidating, but yeah working the dock isn't brain surgery...I just wanted some info on moving-up into being a driver.

I forgot to ask you...how much does dock start out at? Benefits? Are you able to join the Teamster's? Thanks again!

I'm a casual so I don't get any benefits, although I did fill out a form for union membership. I'm not entirely sure how that works. I'm still learning.

We just got bumped up to $16/hour this past week. Again, not sure if that is just our location or if it's ABF-wide. No benefits.

I know the full-time guys get full package but I don't know what that is.

A good person to talk to is Shaggy. He probably wouldn't mind it if you sent him a PM. He knows a lot more about ABF and the union than I do.
