That's a funny story right there.

I thought you don't get paid for doing that unless it's a min of 50 miles out of route and then you get paid $50 for it up until 99 miles out of route.
Whatever happened to that rule? Did something change I don't know about?

Anyway I've said before and I'll say again that Schneider is not very organized and they even make silly mistakes a lot that hurt themselves. Such as your story...
But you see why now they try to get us to do that crap for free lol.
Schneider even makes mistakes entering in pay on the load board. I wrote a thread about my 40 mile relay load that paid over $800, more than $200 of which was the "FSC" .
Hey they did hit pay me for it though so whatever.
Even this week I did a 94 mile load that paid nearly $600. I can see that maybe on a load going into NYC but not a Minneapolis load? lol
Remember that thread I wrote about where they told a driver I met that in Cleveland that there was ZERO empty trailers within 500 miles all the while I was minutes away to drop one there lmao.
Some of the people Schneider has working there must be stoned out of their mind or something I tell you.

    amen to that brother!

I was a reefer driver become I came here, I forgot what it's like to go to sleep when I'm tired and get up when I want or I'm rested.
The whole reefer gig was all about manipulating your sleep schedule constantly to be able to meet ever changing wacky appointment times just to get on time and wait forever to get unloaded and then hand lumpers a big check. Ugh that was terrible!
Now with all these open window appointments that are drop and hook I can work it whatever way I want or feel, it's awesome.
And you're right.. where else can you get all that? nowhere!
Yes this is a job but the lifestyle here holds a massive value. What's the point of a job if you don't enjoy it.

Yes, the $50 is 50-99 miles. However, that was just my attempt to negotiate with them a fair rate to do the shuttle. It's one thing to have to chase an empty trailer that you need for a load. It's an entirely different thing to shuttle around empty trailers for them though

Exactly. ...just like it cost them to move a company truck, it cost us to move our truck...anytime my truck is asked to do them a business move, I expect my truck to be compensated or they can find someone else...they wouldn't do it for free, so I don't either...I run a business not a charity.

yep, and the other thing (for me anyway) is they don't have the decency or professional courtesy to ask you if you would mind.......they just stick it on you like you're their ######....and I ain't. Look, if it works for me or is en route, I'll do, it (but also remind my ICA that she owes me 25 bucks).......but if it ain't, I ignore it all together.

I'm at the point if the mt move goes next door to the shipper I'm headed to I won't do it for 25.00 I'm not an employee and I'm not doing anything I don't want too.

25.00 isn't worth the time or hassle of dealing with a customer whom I'm not picking up or delivering.

Take Mehoopany and Tunkhannock if I pick up at mehoop they always say drop at Tunkhannock but it might take you 2 hrs to go in and out of tunkhannock if they're busy.I take it to mehoop and they can figure it out.

The best by far is when you have a customer has no empties you dropped at and your next load is a relay you're picking up at a drop lot. Instead of just allowing you to bobtail to get your next load they sent you out of route to get an empty at another customer to then go further out of route to drop an empty at yet another customer and then say okay you can bobtail to your relay load now. .. it's happened no joke
It's such crap but thank goodness they don't try to pull that BS often.

That's when you just go pick up the relay. "Sorry I didn't see the workflow update".

    I got Laid yesterday! :king:

Okay well kinda.. I did a load of Lay's chips lol.

I had one of those days I'm sure we've all had at one point or another.. a real joy in trucking.
On every load (that I haven't run before) I check my atlas and do an overhead satellite view of the roads I'll be driving on and of the customers. I want to see everything before hand and make sure I know wtf I'm doing prior and that the route is safe and etc.
Screwing up while I'm driving I really do try to avoid as much as possible.
Anyway a surprise popped up on me last night while driving in farmland Indiana.. the road I was supposed to turn on was pretty much closed due to cops everywhere blocking the road.
So then it's an oh F WTF do I do now moment lol.
So I figure to turn on the next state road and reroute myself. I pull over check the new route.. nothing bad listed as far as restricted or low clearance.
Okay so I'm feeling pretty good about myself....
Then I hit a stupid farm town and the state road suddenly goes into a residential area with sharp turn after sharp turn. I'm like this can't be right but I didn't see any no trucks signs so okay too late now anyway.
The roof of my truck is blasting through tree limbs, I come within inches of knocking over light poles and my trailer running over cars park in the front of houses. :biggrin_25524:
All in the middle of nowhere in Indiana.

    Fun times

Especially during support shift hours. I've decided that operations support is staffed by hamsters running on wheels - working with what they have but just going in circles and not getting anywhere. The planners, however, are pretty much just monkeys in suits at computers. They might look professional, but really the only time they get something right is if they happen to hit the right button by accident.
