You won't be waiting like that with Watkins. Most will get newer Volvos or Freights, if not once hired, shortly after you'll be switched out to a newer one.

You better make sure of that at orientation. Last I heard they were offering triple freedom to all new hires.

late to the party but one guy did get kicked from our class. this was in like 2010. you have to be pretty retarded. this guys simply couldn't drive a truck. I happened to be riding on the downhill challenge. I don't want to spoil it so just for anyone who knows the hill, which is not that bad at all, imagine being terrified and losing brakes on it. that's how bad this guy was. and I wonder how many roads to death and destruction began with his parting words, "F this place, Im going to swift!" haha...

Got a few simple questions. I have been running local for 5 years. I live very close to the Myrtle terminal. All of my experience in driving tractor trailers is delivering groceries across North Mississippi along with the occasional trip to Atlanta, Northern Kentucky. Would I do orientation in Conover or Missoula. Since I live close to Myrtle, MS I would prefer to get hired in running their furniture loads and such in the Southeast. How would I size up as a candidate for them. Added note the stops I do are all hand unloaded stacked on a dolly so the work isn't an issue.

You'd most likely be orienting in Conover (here right now, as a matter of fact). Myrtle isn't much of a terminal at all! Lol! I came, looked around, dropped off the trailer & left.

Wait till you start driving and start to experience some of the frustrating aspects of trucking. If you got hair your gonna loose some of it.
