Bad move. If the insurance company wants the video, they will use your phone number to find out who you are and then they will get the court to issue a subpoena for the video clip. Depending on how bad they think the need the video, they could issue a subpoena for your camera, every computer, storage device, game system, phone and any other device they can find in your home that might be capable of holding a video file regardless of whether or not the device belongs to you or not. And like someone else said, if you destroy, or even just lose the file accidentally, you could face obstruction of justice charges. Like I said, bad move.

So many drivers are gung ho about having dash cams to protect themselves, Very few consider the potential liability of having that camera in your truck. It can also be used against you.

I'm on the fence here because I'm for the people but at the same time those insurance companies are leeches.

Extorting an honest living man is one thing but extorting the blood sucking vampire is another.

For me its more to do with integrity, principle, self respect and all around honor. Things that most under 30 something guys these days completely lack,.. or have no idea the true value.

To put into perspective,.. this is like standing in line and watching a guy drop the $20 bill he was going to pay at the counter,.. putting your foot over it and saying you'll take $5 to find it for him. Its disgraceful, lack of cooth, and shows how your family instilled morals into your personal values and up bringing,.. or lack there of.

Personally,.. its just bad Ju Ju. My conscience wouldnt allow me to do something like that.

I have a dash cam as well. I invested in it to cover my derriere in the event someone pulled some shady crap on me. I'm looking forward to the follow up thread, "My Dash Cam Ratted On Me".

I understand completely what you're saying but I wish this was one of those "black and white/good and evil" circumstances but it isn't.

In the scenario you introduced, the man is clearly being extorted. In this guy's case, the multimillion dollar company is being extorted.

I've seen people in this same situation and still get their insurance rates raised although the accident was ruled to be out of their hands; it truly sickens me.

I dont think you understand at all. If you did, I think you may have chosen a different type of reply.

How old are you,.. if you dont mind my asking?

I think your perception is a bit skewed or bias'd,.. as you seem to fit into the exact profile as I described in my previous post. The "Me Me" generation.

There is more than insurance involved. When lawyers get involved and start suing in motion,. they go after everyone. Not just insurance companies.

So let me make sure I understand your personal level of morals and principles here.
Someone was hit in an accident and you feel its ok to cash in on the experience because you have something substantial to offer for capitol gain. And its ok,.. because the big bad insurance company has been sticking it to the people?

That kind of thinking falls in line with robbing or stealing from a large store and justifying it by believing they are insured,.. so that makes it ok.

Woah. Sorry to inform you but you're the one who's having trouble seeing past their own thoughts and self-righteous opinion. I for one know that I'm not perfect and that trying to understand someone no matter what stance they take is the mature and responsible thing to do.

Never did I say what I would've done in this situation, only looking at the situation objectively & not being so quick to pass judgment on someone like I'm without flaws/sin, unlike you.

I'm the guy that gave up two years of his young life to take care of his sick and elderly grandmother, give to strangers like I've known them forever, volunteer at an orphanage across town, nonprofit organizations, etc and it doesn't make me think I'm anymore superior than you or anyone else because none of us are perfect. You gotta get off of your high horse and stop making assumptions; that's a fool's habit.

    I'm 23 btw

It doesn't really matter what the morally correct thing to do is. It's really quite simple. You cannot sell evidence. If someone wants it, they will subpoena it.

And the reason that it can be subpoenaed is for situations just like this.

Evidence should not be held hostage, period. No matter who it favors.
