    No fooling !!!

06/14/08 I'm up in wisconsin tooling along hwy 173 northbound.

I'm past the nice section of 173 where its fairly wide with a shoulder. past 80 it narrows to no shoulder, slight drop off into the tree marsh.

I can see a light whirling and start gearing down, cops writing a ticket maybe?

nope a truck is in the ditch on its side real hard, seriously crunched passenger side. I'm staring at undercarriage as I go by but can read "WALMART" on the trailer door.

cop standing there chatting with driver who looks ok.

do my drop and come back an hour later...

road is closed at an intersection several miles from the wreck:

I stop with the four-ways not knowing which route to take (left or right).

The hottest of the hottie female troopers crawls out of her cruiser and walks over to the door. "where ya trying to get to?"

"back down to the 90/94 split headed to minnesota"

she gives me the directions and says sorry about the road being closed theres a big rig over-turned and they're trying to upright it.

I smiled and said, "yep, walmart, I figured you just shove him into the woods a little deeper and bury or burn the truck."

she laughed and says, "No s*it, we ought to, genius says a bunny jumped out in front of his truck and when he swerved to miss it he lost control."

I said, "good story, how's that working out for him?"

She laughs and says, "Not so good, my partner is over there writing out his tickets right now. We know what happened, everone knows what happened, we even know we're gonna get lied to, but jesus??? you ran in the ditch full of trees for a rabbit??? that just ain't gonna fly... drunk almost hit you head-on or trucker shoved you in the ditch while trying to pass... anything but "the bunny did it"

She (the trooper) must have been new??? but wow, nice smile and just laughing her head off...

My answer maybe a little jaded
I feel police will lie and or embellish a story to justify a ticket, or make quota
So a person has no choice but to choose survival and lie

    Funny story though

It ain't lying. It is being creative! Most cops and even DOT guys/gals are pretty decent human beings and would rather keep a guys troubles to a minimum. Not easy to believe I know but, believe it I do. A couple of excuses that got me out of tickets ranged from "I had a sneezing fit" to "I thought you were an armadillo".:biggrin_2556: Both worked, a chuckle was had and I got away with it. As im6under posted, the cops generally know the story just by looking, give them a reason to let you go and sometimes they do.

I've been driving under a year but, I've got the disco lights twice. Once in TExas near el paso and one other time in CA. I've found that les is more. I don't volunteer information like logbooks that are not completly accurate or how much sleep I really got last night. But having a good story, yeah that usually checks you out of there fast and with a laugh. Unless they're looking for a reason and that happens sometimes, they really just want to see if your breathing and know that you are still on planet earth.

I have had a few dealings with the fuzz...and most of them are good people. Be cool with them and they will be with you.

Most cops I have delt with have been nice. Only one had a chip on his shoulder, and that got me a ticket.. Lucky for me just received a letter that I would be on probation for a month, and then the violation would not be on my DAC. $100 to a good lawyer, prevented me from paying a $300+ dollar fine and it being on my driving record..

    When I did my apprenticeship
My boss live with his parents (with his wife and three kids LOL)
The chief of police, cedarburg WI
Now I didn't get any secret info from the chief, but my boss told me plenty
There was even an article in the paper about a fired cop telling all
The crux of the story was they were given a quota and they did what they had to do to fill it
    Read between the lines
They were to lie and do what it took
