I don't like canned beans or any food in a can because of the chemicals.... If I can find some that have only water and salt, I'll buy it... When I get a power inverter here, will buy a slow cooker and cook beans, soups and soy, which is rich in protein... which I need cause I've been lacto-vegetarian for 35 yrs...

I cut up strawberries and bananas and maybe some grapes in a big container. I keep a dorm fridge strapped on the jump seat and easy to grab without stopping.
But I also cook out otr, freeze what I can and nuke it when I need it. Pain in the arse sometimes, but saves money. :)

I don't use a microwave, use a real stove to cook... Also use a portable stove 12V to cook my brown rice... it takes a little over one hr but I won't use those rice bags... :biggrin_25512: Cooking in the truck takes time.... if you do like I do... slice the legumes and vegetables on an improvised table on my bed, then cook them on top of the stove, with garlic, salt, pepper, seasoning and just a few drops of vegetable oil... Then, clean up everything and put things away... It's a ritual and it takes discipline... But I have no other option.... There's nothing for me to eat out there... :biggrin_25513: I came from another country where food is cooked differently... and I can't find what I want here in the USA... Americans don't cook legumes, don't have rice and beans on their menu, all their vegetables are raw... :biggrin_2552: A lot of their food has some kind of meat and a lot of food is deep fried ... VERY UNHEALTHY according to my eating habits... and I also find that folks here put sugar in their cooking... :biggrin_2552: I don't eat anything that has white sugar... And also, Americans don't cook from scratch... seems most everything comes from a can and or a package... it has been pre-cooked, processed, industrialized with a bunch of chemicals... I won't eat it... :biggrin_25512:
I do my groceries about once a week at Walmarts during my 30 min break... However, don't know why but the vegetables, the spices and fruits in Brasil, my country of origin, taste different from the ones in America... don't know if it's the climate, the soil, chemicals... they taste better than the ones here IMO...

Yeah it's time consuming for sure!
I only use my microwave to heat things up not to cook, I cook in an electric skillet.

Absolutely... :biggrin_25519: would like to know from our fellow duckdiver how his Nutribullet works... I saw it on TV... same thing with the SuperNinja... When I get to my storage in the middle of August, will get my power inverter and next time truck goes for PM at terminal... in September or so, will ask them to install it and will try the juicer...
You know, in Brasil, it's very common to have a smoothie or a natural fresh juice at any snack bar on the street... They make it right there on the counter... with REAL fruits, mixed with whatever you want, water, milk, orange juice... whatever... they have a HUGE variety of delicious fruits in that country and you can mix several, add sugar, or no sugar, ice... and it's CHEAP too... I was there a couple months ago and there was a bar like that near my hotel... every evening when returning to the hotel I would stop at the bar and have a 500 ml of some delicious fresh juice.... for $2.25... :yes2557: OH MY!! Do I miss that??? You betcha!!!

Was out of fruits in the truck the other day and was looking for a healthy snack... Glad to find those cups with fruit salad at FJ... Got two and had those with some plain yogurt and raw honey.... hmmmmm.....:biggrin_25520:

An electric skillet... never seen one... does one need a power inverter for that?

I habe seen little electric skillets at the TS that you plug into your cigarette lighter. They're pretty small though.

Thanks... will look for that... But my company mechanic told me to let them install my power inverter instead of using these 12V appliances that end up burning the sockets and don't last long... and I think that's what I'm gonna do...

I will not put a microwave on my truck; nuking food is a bad practice.

Will bring my vitamix, green tea and lean venison/grass fed beef along, albacore tuna, etc

Haven't touched soda or fast food (excluding chick fil a) in about a year.
