On the whole, my TQL experience has been positive:
- They offer direct deposit.
- Their pay is always accurate.
- They always pay on time or early.
- They accept documents electronically for free (*cough* listen up Landstar).
- They have someone answering the phone 24/7.
Here are the 20 loads I've done for them over the past year (dry van):
Loaded Miles, Rate, RPM
375___$750.00____$2.00
952___$2,450.00__$2.57
408___$950.00____$2.33
430___$2,000.00__$4.65
986___$1,800.00__$1.83
259___$950.00____$3.67
327___$1,500.00__$4.59
327___$1,500.00__$4.59
327___$1,500.00__$4.59
381___$1,250.00__$3.28
773___$2,350.00__$3.04
984___$2,625.00__$2.67
185___$975.00____$5.27
2033__$2,850.00__$1.40
2413__$4,250.00__$1.76
264___$700.00____$2.65
296___$1,200.00__$4.05
587___$1,975.00__$3.36
575___$1,148.53__$2.00
508___$775.00____$1.53
Total
6714 miles
$33,498.53
Average Load
670 miles
$1,674.93
$3.09 rpm (how DAT calculates it)
$2.50 rpm (total rate divided by total miles)
That's not to say everything goes swimmingly: One of the stops on the second load wound up being at a different location than the dispatch sheet (& BOL) indicated. That was a 2 hour delay waiting for confirmation and the stop was 50 miles out of route, but I got only $50 for my trouble. And the 10th load had a rejected pallet -- an issue quite clearly caused by the shipper and not me or TQL. But it required me to sit 14 hours near the consignee before being told to take the pallet to FedEx to have shipped back to the shipper. For that hassle I again got only $50.
So in my experience, 90% of the time everything goes perfectly and 10% of the time "Trucking happens" in which case you probably won't be compensated as well as you deserve. So just charge them enough the other 9 times to make it worthwhile...
One final note: I used to get hounded for check calls, sometimes while I was sleeping and sometimes just moments after I'd called in. It seems that TQL usually has one broker/agent at each extension and multiple underlings below them doing the check calls -- and these folks don't always communicate with each other. So now when I book a TQL load, I ask for the email addresses of everyone who will be working on that account and I simply CC everyone my email updates. I haven't had a check call in months...scottlav46 and KG-TQLSupport Thank this. -
Double...stop it.....not allowed to be logical when it comes to brokers...
double yellow Thanks this. -
You guys ever hear of the volume button on phones? It's a magical little button when presses it controls your volume. If you lower your volume to silent mode, you will have a much better sleep and not be woken up by tql.
-
I guess that would work if the only incoming calls were from TQL .... And if that were the case I pity you ...
-
DY your a glass half full kinda guy after looking at your history I question what was so positive ? other than tearing them up on some short runs I see plenty of cheap rates and are you hoping to do 30 loads for them next year ?
-
Maybe so, but I would be thrilled to do 100 loads just like those next year. $170,000 on 67,000 miles? Who wouldn't be happy doing that their 2nd year (in a dry van)?
Sure, there were a couple loads I'm not particularly proud of, but those are all my TQL loads & not just the cherry-picked home runs.DirtyDog808 Thanks this. -
Dale,
You don't think $2.50 pm on ALL miles in a dry van is a good thing??
Explain why please, -
I got out in north Dakota hauling pipeline materials. TQL is the only broker on the board with outbound freight. It's usually Hay destined for Texas, You need 40 ft straps and oversize banners and red flags. TQL expects you to kiss their ### or roll back from Williston, ND empty.

You'll be hauling pipe out of Houston. If you don't have a twic card you can'T get loads from drayage. You haul cheap imported pipe from china, why else would you need a twic card/
