Hi all. My husband starts the driver training on Monday. I am really stressed. I had a Home Invasion and being home alone is not going to be fun. I am trying to prepare and budget for everything. Are there refrigerators in the trucks? If not can I buy him something and if so what is best? He did very well in his tests. He has driven before years ago. Any advice on getting a good mentor and or getting a run after he starts that will allow him to be home more often then every three to four weeks. We live in AZ. I also wanted to know how much I should budget for him to spend on food and things while out with Mentor and how much money you all think he will bring home in pay.
Thanks in advance!
Help, Swift Driver training, any help also, refrigerators, what to expect

No fridges in truck. Nothing you can do to get a better mentor. Just cross your fungers or ask for specufuc one if you know one persomally to train him. I run two weeks out and come back home for 2-3 days.
Don't buy anything until he is solo and done with training. Maybe he will get lucky and get mentor with a 12v cooler. These coolers can be purchased at truck stop for $99. I got one and it's fantastic.
As far as your house... time to buy a gun or you can what I do. I leave my wife and kid with our 3 pitbulls.
Would love to see someone try and come into our house without us telling them it's ok. Best alarm system money can buy. You can't even pull in driveway without them knowing someone is on the property. Two sleep in my son's room and one sleeps with my wife.beachin Thanks this. -
During mentor phase he will bring home 400-450 a week. Depending on how much he is driving. He will get paid minimum wage hourly for on duty and driving status.

I have an alarm system. A gun doesn't help. I was attacked when I was sound asleep. A gun wouldn't have done any good. I am still scared even with the alarm system. I am not worried about him making it so buying him things is not a concern. Thanks very much for your response. Any help on the income part? Would you go with Swift from the start if you had it to do again?

Money wise I would say . $100 a week. $20 a day should do him.
Thinks that's roughly what I spent.
I honestly don't have anything bad to say about Swift. They have treated me as good as one can expect from a starting company.
The don't bother me and I do my job. -
Earl Henderson Trucking has a better deal; guaranteed minimum weekly income after hitting the road from their CDL school. This is a company to consider for the future now that he's already commited to Swift.
Another good company to think about for the future is Groendyke Transport. Many drivers retire from that company and they hire in AZ.
Start a backup plan now in case he makes a change in the future. Make a list of companies that look good and what their qualifications are.Last edited: Aug 2, 2015

Tell him to tough it out through mentor phase. That will be the roughest time.
Once solo it's 100 times better and he is off and running to get more experience for other companies that provide better amenities in the truck and paybeachin Thanks this. -
I have been making a list the problem I guess is finding all the insight into companies. I am going to make some calls on Monday and just tell them he has no hair, passed all drug tests etc...

Oh, good advice, just tough it out through the menor time then make a change... Okay. He isn't worried, I am... I'm the one who spoils him. 1000 thread count sheets, feather pillows, he doesn't know the difference.... he came from blue collar, obviously I am from White. But I'm not a snob
