LMAO. Bud called me back, and was less than thrilled about my time constraint. It will be next March, maybe Febuary before I am ready. Gotta save some money to pay the bills before I get back to truckin. My work truck will be paid off in Nov., finally, so that will be $650 a month I can save. Bud gave me plenty of information that I can set up what I need to save to do this. Prime looks like my best option, and the pay he quoted me is good. I talked with him a bit, he used to be at CRE also. I think the reason Prime did not take me back then was I had just got out of jail, tent city Az., for child support. Of course that went away when I got custody of the kids in 99 and got off the road. I will use the time between now and then to learn and research. Like I told someone in another thread, I am making a living now, but I want to go back to doing what I love doing.

Yep I was a guest of Sheriff Joe for about a month, that's all the vacation I needed.

I bet. Had to suck.
Glad it's only a memory for you, now. Bet ya got some stories outta that one. -
Yea, I got to be a framer for about 3 weeks. One thing I liked about Az. law is that if you owed Child Support, they did not allow you to sit on your rear in jail, you had to either have a job, or go find a job and they deducted money from you. My problem was when I left Az. and moved back to NC in 95, I did not pay for a year, but then I had payroll deduction. Az. issued a warrent, and they served it when I came back to Az. Once in front of a judge, took about a month, they released me because I had been paying for the last year and a half before the warrant was served. What really sucked was after I got my kids, and was filing taxes, Az. took ALL of my returns until what I was behind was paid up. When I questioned them they told me the kids Mom was getting the money. The problem with that was she died in 2000, and when I brought that up I was told, well, I owe the State.
Bud called me again yesterday, to let me know I needed a passport, which I was aware of, and to pin down the time line for making this transition. He said I was pretty much approved. I am going to try and pull some extra work around here to make some extra so I can get out of this as soon as possible.FullMetalJacket Thanks this. -
So I am looking to get into trucking and had made my mind up on picking Swift transportation or Prime Inc. The concern I have with Prime is that they don't have a terminal near California. The closest one they have next to me is in Salt Lake City. I would figure that Prime Inc does not let you take home the truck with you so with that being said Would I just have to stuck it up and drive for 10+ hours just to get home?

Not really. They would likely try to get a load delivering half way close, then you go home w/truck. They do not have to be left at terminal if you have safe place to park & it's allowed there. Hardly anyone leaves them at terminals.
Trailer could be dropped at one of customers or yards, then they have you go get another when you come back out. We do have a drop yard in Fontana. They like to keep those trailer active.
Where your at in Cali may make a difference. Someone in recruiting should be able to let you know.Last edited: Aug 6, 2015
