I am but not a 10 hour drive that would be crazy to do that just to get home because I have a swift terminal 50 minutes away from me. I would just pick Swift over prime if i would have to drive 10 hours just to get home for my home time.

Lol common man I'm messing with you of course prime doesn't expect you to commute 10 hours to get home. Like fmj said you take the truck home it does have to be parked in a safe legal place. Utah is were you will most likely do your orientation though.

Were the largest refrigerated carrier in North America and in So Cal you're one of the most populated areas in North America. I'm not from CA but I'm bet Prime has a plan for such a situation and I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time this happened. You can probably get a better answer if you ask around on the forum and if not I'm sure a recruiter could help.

As a OTR driver, will not be going home much anyway.

Figure once a month, if that. If your trying to make $$, will be less frequent.

Personally, I would be looking at much more compelling reasons for chosing a company.

Training, equipment, maintenance of that equipment, payscale, benefits, retirement.........to see which would best fit my situation.

Hometime is just something you will not see a lot of OTR if your going to make any decent $.

That's main reason so many folks do not stick around long. We always say it is a lifestyle, & most don't understand that till they get out here. It truly is a 24/7/365 life.

Ya unfortunately I hear that Prime Inc does not let you take more then 4 days off at a time for home time because I would love to stay out on the road for like six months at a time. That way I could take sometime off while making lots of $$$$

Not necessarily the case. If your out 6mos+ at a stretch, likely could be arranged w/your Fleet Manager. If out that long, distance for hometime REALLY a moot point, not even worth considering for only once/twice a year!

Only thing would be, if you took much more than 4 days.....you might need to move out of truck, then get another when back. Costs them a lot of revenue if it sits long. That would be decided then.

I know guys whom stay out for lengthy periods, then take a longer period off.

Myself, I never take off. With the length of time I stay out, all I have to to is "say the word"...and I will get whatever time I want without question. It's definately something you have to come to an agreement on with your fleet manager.

They expect at least 3-5 weeks out before hometime. Prefer longer than that.

You get 1 day hometime credited for each week out.

I took a pay cut when I went to the management side of this. I never made less than $2500 every 2 weeks, and there were several times I made $5000 on a 2 week pay cycle. Of course I provided vehicle, fuel, tools, liability insurance and vehicle maintenance. I have made #### good money 1099 cable contracting. The issue is it is a young man's game, after 50 climbing up ladders, rain or shine, under houses and in attics all day 12 hours a day you tend to slow down a lot, the last year I did it I had to hire a helper and pay him. What I do now only pays $1000 a week, and again, I have to provide vehilce, tools, fuel, etc. I am pretty sure I can make more bring home driving.

Just my 2 cents here. I have been out of the game for a while. I have experience at Swift, and as I stated, they are a good training company. Many of the experiences I had with Swift were in 1990-1991, and they were not all that good from an experienced driver standpoint. If you leave your truck at the terminal they expect you to clean it out, because they will put another driver in it during your time off, that is called slip seating.

If I was making the choicde I would take Prime over Swift.
