Hello I am currently thinking about becoming a truck driver and want to know how is it like working for a company that does not have APU? In order to have the AC on when it is in the summer time do you have to idle all night long? If so i thought there was anti idle laws that you can not idle at night time? Does swift get mad at you if you idle at night?

Swift will always complain about idle times.
I will always ignore the complaints.
After 4.5 years nothing has changed either way.

Moose is right, if it's hot out, idle the truck. Swift understands we need to be comfortable to get the rest we need to be safe drivers. They really don't have a problem with idling they trucks when it is necessary. What they do have a problem with is excess idling and idling when it isn't necessary. My DM told me one time he walked with a driver out to his truck and the truck was idling...while the driver was inside the terminal. That is unnecessary.

As for the illegal issue, in 5 1/2 years out here, I have never seen a law officer cruising the truck stops to see who is idling. If they did, they would make a killing in fines or need a bus to haul 100 plus drivers off to jail because when it's hot, EVERYONE is idling. And the same when it's cold. Yes, the truck has bunk heaters that work remarkably well (most of the time), but I got several messages last winter that said to idle when temps are below 15 degrees.

I have seen the local at the Pilot in Otay Mesa knocking on doors, and even trucks that have that pretty little decal on the hood, and have seen them in PA on I-80 many years ago

What companies actually have APU trucks??

I know it's only been a few months so far... But I have noticed maybe 4?? Those were independent OO.

98% trucks idling at truck stop.. I just assumed the 2% were in the shower or restaurant...

If companies are advertising it.... Expect to roll out MUCH SLOWER THAN THE CAMERA INSTALLS.

I bet a rookie would get his 2-3 years experience before his APU.
