Why have a scale on property if you wont cut product by it? Being a third party logistics company our customer gets upset anytime the scale is closed on our property. EVEN when its for safety reasons during seriously icy weather. Their reasoning is they're paying for it, they want it used.
I've cut product from orders/loads BEFORE they are loaded because i see what the numbers look like for just the load itself. There's a carrier we keep telling to stop bringing us reefers because we can't load them out due to bulk of the product cubes. they still do it and even before I have a lift operator go over there depending on the weight(corporate says we can load out 45,500 on a load) i've had to cut 5000+ pounds to even start with. (we try and keep reefer loads under 40k..)
The ONLY time we try not to cut product is if the loaded truck is under gross. if we can simply rework the load to legal its better for us and the customer. Even then we will cut product if it saves us time occasionally.. -
I mean personally if the customer has a scale on the property I will use it every time.
Just saying maybe that's why some don't use it.
I'll use then decide if I still want to CAT Scale it.
Just depends on how close I am to Max. -
I understand that some places do charge for it but it doesn't hurt to ask right?

The real problem for me is getting these loaders to listen how I need my trailer loaded. When they do it turns out just fine every time.
They like to pontificate about how they do this all day every day. They're not half as smart as they think they arefargonaz, BostonTanker and HorseShoe Thank this. -
HorseShoe Thanks this.

I loaded a load of beer at coors in Lebanon, Oh. They scaled me in and out and refused to tell me the weight. Even turned the weight screen away when i tried to peek. The the priceless sign: if you leave coors property we (coors) are assuming that the load is correctly loaded and not responsible for any fines... wtf...born&raisedintheusa Thanks this. -
SADLY & UNFORTUNATELY, it appears that the shipping and receiving plant is NOT legally responsible or liable for INTENTIONALLY withholding weight information from the truck driver.
It also appears that the shipping and receiving plant does NOT care that the truck driver could get seriously fined, lose his or her job, or lose his or her CDL for being overweight or grossly overweight.
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.! -

I never trust a shippers scale.
