Yes, however I am not spelling hippopotamus. That would be referring to an animal.
Given that I am referring to a fear of something, otherwise known as a phobia, the spelling is correct.
In fact, the term "hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia" is a mixture of words that refers to the fear of long words.
Hippopotamus is truncated to begin the word, however the Latin form of monstrous (Monstrom) takes over and is also truncated. Lastly, sesquipedalian is used to top off the word. It is also Latin, and translates literally to, "a foot and a half long."
The cherry on top is the ending. All good and real fears must have the word phobia glued firmly to the end.
Since it is a combination of 3 words and all 3 are truncated, your red pencil has been nullified.
Tomorrow, we will learn the word, "Etymology."
