    It started declining after that tragic accident down
    in Florida that killed all those young children. Only
    way they stayed in business was to become hyper safety oriented and let the lawyers call the shots.

    I was working for them when that happened. That was a horrific thing. I was berated on several occasions after that accident by other drivers at truck stops and such. I was pulling into a truck stop one day and some driver hollered at me on the CB, "don't kill me Crete"!!!

    The safety manager at that time told us that Crete had to step back and rethink their entire philosophy. Before that accident it was "how can we do this and get away with it" and after it was "how can we do this and be compliant".

    Not totally true. The big 6 rail carriers all have premium intermodal service that get a box from one end to the other in 7-10 days with door to door drayage included. Sure it's not as fast as a team or even a solo driver but the time frame isn't too bad. Rail could be faster also...everything chokes in Chicago and containers can sit for 2-3 days before they interchange carriers. Once it gets past Chicago it's there two days later in LA, Seattle, etc. on the UP or BNSF.

    I work for Crete. Crete is not putting cameras in all their trucks. If you screwup they will.

    We have had seven new trucks in four years and have no drive cam in in any one of them.

    AMERICAN DEMOCRACY: The government promises to give you two cows if you vote for it. After the election, the president is impeached for speculating in cow futures. The press dubs the affair "Cowgate".
    BRITISH DEMOCRACY: You have two cows. You feed them sheep brains and they go mad. The government doesn't do anything.
    CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.
    RECOVERYISM: You have twelve cows ... and a sponsor.
    OLTHETENISM: You have two cows. You milk them and sell the milk in the Discovery Cafe.

    True, but his point was in the first two lines, which is the attitude that drivers are "a dime a dozen". GOOD drivers certainly are not.
