New truck Aisin as69rc or g56

    Hi to all I'm a newbie here and was wandering if you guys could help me out?

    I'm going to be ordering a new ram 3500. Below is an post i put out on a few diesel forums that explains what i have currently and what im doing with the new truck but the main thing im wandering from you guys is how the as69rc and the g56 are holding up or not holding up to the heavy hauling and high milage you guys do, any and all advice is appreciated! There aren't alot of guys on the diesel forums that put on alot of miles and haul heavy. I'm also going to be doing more camper deliveries this year so im guessing ill be running in the nabor hood of 75k-100k miles this year and hopefully years to come

    I'm going to be buying a new truck with in the next month or two i'm at a cross roads between the g56 and the aisin 69. I tow 18,000lb camper for my own recreation and also deliver campers for a few local camper dealers so its loaded most the time between 20-32k combined depending on the camper. Current truck is 08 ram 3500 68rfe purchased used in 2010 with 27,000 miles and has been deleted and had 2nd gen turbo sense 55,000 miles, it currently has 286,000 miles and has been a good truck over all except for the trans which is my own fault, running at 400-425hp. Prior to that i had a 06 ram 2500 G56 drove for 98,000 miles and loved this truck but was in need of a 3500 dually so it had to go. I never towed much with it so i have no experience with the durability of the g56 towing heavy/for alot of miles, i did have a tuner on it and was pretty hard on it with no problems but that really doesn't compare to heavy high miles.

    As for the new truck, It will be deleted and i will be installing a 2nd gen turbo setup with either a bd or pac exhaust break immediately. Probably going to be running it in the same 425-450hp range, if i go with the g56 it will also be getting a sb street dd or a valair street dd right off the bat. I would really like to go with the g56! I am skeptical if it will hold up tho. Ive heard great things about the latest aisin 69 and will go that route if need be for durability.

    Also for tuning i would like to run the raceme ultra this go around as i like the all in one with gauges , Ive read that custom tuning is going to be available soon, do you guys know if this is true? If not ill have to go with the old trusty Efi thru anarcky or maybe try hpp this time. I like the data logging of the efi so i can get things tweaked in for my specific truck and needs. Not a fan of box tuning. If raceme ultra can offer me data logging and custom tuning now or in the near future, then i will definitely go with them.

    I was hoping to hear from some of you guys that haul heavy daily and put on alot of miles with the g56 and guys running the aisin 69? What failures and problems are you guys having with either one? Also any info on raceme ultra? Your input will be greatly appreciated!!!

    im not sure how much use i can be, but here it goes.
    the new ram 25-5500 are making 450 hp stock(i think) so not sur why you would want to put a 2nd gen turbo on the new 6.7 Cummins. but i do know with the manual trans (g56) you will lose hp/tq since they derate it. the auto is full hp/tq (i think 500/850).

    Stick with the auto. Like damutt said, they detune the manuals. Its painful driving one because of lack of power. Also idk why you want to delete the truck. Yes, I get the power/mpg gain you will get, but still. You lose reliability. The 2016 Rams have 900 lbs of torque. That is plenty for your application.

    Both are good transmissions, the g56 responds better to tuning. But in stock form both have more power then you will ever need.

    The 2016 mated to the Aisin auto (3500 only) is rated at 385hp/900lbs torque.

    385 hp is plenty of HP to do this type of work.

  9. I have a 2014 Ram 3500 Quad Cab 4X4 with 116 Gallon DuallyDepot.com fuel tank in the bed, the Cummins 6.7L and the 68RFE Auto Tranny. My trailer is a Big-Tex 35+5 with Mega Ramps. Bone dry weighing 8,050 lbs. I can put and have put up to 15,000 lbs of freight on it and the tranny is smooth as silk. With 11,000 lbs of freight, I can motor up Jellico Mountain in Tennessee at 65 MPH without breaking a sweat and without constant downshifting... I was a bit worried about 5 months after a bought the truck that I may have made a mistake by not purchasing the HD Aisin, but so far so good. The truck is bone stock for the next month anyway. Just hit 114,107 miles here in Hagerstown Maryland and I'm still happy I bought my first Ram...(Been a die hard ford guy my entire life... Till the Ram came into play) My opinion, Ford is knocking on the Rams door with the F-450, and the Chevy and the GMC aren't even in the rear view mirror as far as doing the job I need and expect that my truck does. Go Rams? LoL

    Ford is still proving themselves, the new 6.7 is looking good and we are starting to see some high mileage (600k+) out of them.

    Some year cummins 5.9 were million mile engines but its hard to keep a transmission behind them.

    Cummins 6.7 is looking to another million miler, and dodge finally seems to have sorted out their transmission issues.


    06+ duramax are a million mile engine, and chevy rides the best IMO. And the Allison is a hard transmission to top.

    After over half a million miles of driving diesel pickups I'd be going chevy if I bought a new truck.


    All the big three have more then enough power for any commercial use.
