So, I guess I will give you all more fuel... his mentor left the truck at 7am. He is in his home state. He already had my husband sit around for a day while he went to court for a violation and again when the truck broke down. He told my husband that he would be back in an hour or so. They have a run that has to be there in 8 hours and it's further away then that and he hasn't come back yet. It's been just under 12 hours. My husband hasn't called him because he's not his baby sitter.

I feel comfortable. CRUNCH!! Oops!! Someone once said that if they feel like they got it they would toss the keys and walk away. Guarentee the old timers pee their pants often because of comfortable drivers. Think you're going too fast? Yup!! Think you're too tired? Yup!! Do your hub a favor. Let him post. No offense, but from observing here he might be sticking MY neck out to convince you he is ready.

There is a difference between a driver in training and and a driver on their own.

If it DOESN'T AFFECT YOU PAY then by all means get off the drive line. Since Swift driver's in training are paid by the hour I would have advised him to go to the "on duty-not driving" line while stuck in traffic. Yes, it's burning his 70 but it's not that big a deal for a team.

I "fired" my first mentor because he wanted me use just the trailer brakes (in order to save his tractor brakes). I felt this was unsafe (I started driving truck in 1975) and driver training in Phoenix agreed.

In the end most mentors just get the new driver to the point they can go off and learn on their own. I had a great mentor and it's amazing what he DIDN'T teach me.

So what do you want from the majority of us who aren't on a swift trainer truck?
