The mods may move this since it really isn't Auto Haul per se, but since most of the guys that know me best are here, I figured why not.
As most here know 2015 hasn't been the year I was hoping for, after a banner 2014, and buying all new trailers for 2015 I was really looking for big things, but then of course we lost a bunch of drivers, ongoing issues with trying to replace them, dropping freight rates, screwing my back up two weeks ago stacking semi tires, and then my wife and I deciding to part ways last Friday after 24 years have left me a bit glazed over and non-responsive.
So as I walked out to the shop to jump in the pickup to go for breakfast this morning, a little voice over in the corner said "take me, take me", glancing over to that corner was a sad looking old car, all full of cobwebs and dust, low tires, and a spot of oil underneath, the car looked about like I felt.
But then I opened the door and sat in her, and looked out over the Ram Air hood and the factory outside tach, and thought something needed to be done, so out came the charger, fired up the air compressor, and started checking all the fluids.
A short while later after I had everything aired up and the car no longer leaned to one side, and topped off all the fluids, I pulled the coil wire and spun her over until the oil gauge started to move, a little fuel down the carb and what happed next would either make or break my day.
A couple of pumps on the accelerator to set the choke, hooked the coil back up, and hit the key, she started like I had just parked her yesterday, after high idle for a minute or two and confirming that all of the gauges and vitals looked good, I stabbed the throttle and she settled down to that nice low down lope that all big cammed up Pontiacs have.
Before I knew it I had the wash bucket, hose and my detail box out, cleaned her up inside and out, and wiped her down to a nice dry shine, a bit of armor all on the tires and some windex for the glass, and the car looked great and I was feeling much better about things.
It's been a while since I had her out, put quite a few miles on her the last two years after building her from a bare frame up, pulling onto the highway she pulled though the gears like a runaway freight train. About this time I was feeling much better about life.
Running about 50 miles to the next (big) town I just decided that a sitdown breakfast wouldn't work, so grabbed a sandwich and drink in the drive thru, stopped and filled the tank with fresh gas and some octane booster, and we were off.
What a great day, sunny sky's, a cool breeze a nice throaty exhaust drone and nothing but open road, by the time we pulled back into town we had covered over 400 miles, even got into triple digits a time or two, I literally could not wipe the grin off my face.
Well the day is done, the old girl is put back to bed and for the first time in a couple of weeks, I'm looking forward to tomorrow, funny how that works.
Took an old freind out for breakfast today,
