A week ago we stopped a driver who stated that he was a LT in the FBI who was driving trucks on his vacation to pad his retirement. He was overweight and had no log book. I thought his story smelled fishy.
Rest of the story - He WAS FBI. But suspended without pay and forbidden to carry his weapon, credentials and badge.
He is now a permanent truck driver. At least he didn't claim to be a US Marshall.

I had a driver tell me he called the local US Marshall in Effingham to stop a cop from cruising the parking lot harassing drivers. He said he used the phone book to get the number...and out they came.

Cant claim the US Marshall thing, but I did force a DOT inspector to bring out a supervisor when he tried to give me a bogus over gross ticket, when the supervisor showed up I asked him to look into my trailer which happen to be empty, kind of hard to be over gross on a warm summer night

It's not the marshalls, it's the FBI. And yes, the have been known to orbit major cities, can collect meta data and have additional capabilities as well.

As for the "Marshall" urban myth, someone started it long ago, not knowing what they were talking about, and it then perpetuated itself into fact......funny how that happens, when there's not an air of truth in it.

The only foreseeable reason the Marshall's would ever be involved with trucking, would be if one came in contact indirectly with a truck driver, who might have engaged in something illegal he just happened to witness as a matter of chance (Right location, right time sort of thing) or, if they were a part of a joint task force or tracking a known fugitive inside a CMV or connected to one.

It's never been a part of their official duties and still isn't.

Well.. he said he "was" an LT in the FBI. He just didn't emphasize the "was" when he articulated it to you.

    It's all in the perception.

Technically, he told you the truth.
