We used to have a 2 stroke Detroit with an air starter. Sounded great till it ran out of air and didn't start.

My old KW with a 8V92 used to have air start and so does this one too. I've run out of air twice in 35 years, but every tire is a spare air reservoir! Main thing is, keep up with the maintenance.

tsavory and Dye Guardian Thank this.

I chickened out today. We were dropping off a 290 excavator at a cement plant. They asked us to park it on top of the used cement pile so it was out of the way.

It had a grade of about 70 degrees. It wouldn't climb up anymore, the tracks were completely on the pile.

The pic doesn't accurately show the grade, I think I had my phone at an angle.

I tried to put the boom on the ground and help push it upwards and move the tracks at the same time but no go. When that didn't work, I tried the opposite and tried to use the boom to help pull myself forward but the cement at the top was wet.

I wasn't comfortable getting more aggressive so I gave up the controls to the other driver. He then smartly decided to put the bucket on and make the grade not so steep and build a little area to park it. At that point, I was jealous that I wasn't able to play in the dirt.
