They offered me a job, and I turned it down to haul fuel. They're a good company, but it was the opportunity I was dying to get as an entry-level employee. With 2 years of perfect driving experience under my belt, I decided to go for the highest pay in the industry.

Most of the trucks appeared to not be the "long nose" peterbilts, but a newer type that allows for more visibility to the driver. The hood kind of points down, if you know what I mean. I don't know what model they are. There were some long nose peterbilts, however.

@moloko - thanks for the info, sir. Who did you get your 2 years with, just curious?? I hear ya on that fuel hauling, Talked to a driver for "KAG" at one of the local gas stations. He drove for 1 year with Marten, and then switched to fuel, home nightly, said he was bringing close to 80k.

I never went OTR. I started with a somewhat local, seasonal company hauling agriculture products (think tomatoes, grapes etc), and worked my tail off to get a permanent spot with them. Stayed for a year and some change, then went and hauled milk tankers for Ruan. You could try Antonini fruit express first, then progress to the freight side. Your 2nd year, go do some food grade tanker like at Cherokee Freight Lines (they're nice people...)

KAG is one of the largest fuel hauling companies. I'm having a pretty positive experience with Williams Tank Lines at the moment, but that is largely dependent on my trainer. Stay the hell away from Fuel Delivery Services, those people can't treat people right.

I was once looking at Northern right out of school, but I found an owner operator in Stockton that offered me 50cents plus 40$ per drop. I do 10 drops all hour or shorter apart.

Northern is a great company with great people in management. I've been driving for them since 2010 and its been a pleasure to be here. Ive drove line for them since day one out of the Commerce yard. First with Poppy State (same owners as Northern but recently merged so Poppy State is no more) making two turns to Phoenix, Az. weekly mostly LTL. Use to get paid commision (loved that) but because of lazy drivers that want something for nothing , and because there will always be ambulance chasing lawyers that will help you get just that if there is a way to do it regardless if the other 99.9% are happy with the way they get paid. So NRT had to go to paying us hourly and mileage to comply with new California labor laws that now require drivers to be paid for all hours on duty. So now Lazy Larry makes the same amount of money as me regardless of years with the company or skill involved in getting off 8-10 drops and getting your backhaul to return home. The new pay system promotes laziness and half ### work now because everyone is dragging ### to try to come close to the money we made before, can you say 'milkman'? Since I dont get down like that , and because that lane no longer pays like it use to due to the pay change (which I in no way blame the company for....####ing liberals) I now run the Northwest lane which is a much more beautiful route but keeps me out longer and driving more hours to make the money I use to running Arizona. Ive stayed here because of the benefits, which are way better than any other reefer pulling company out there, and the people which have always made me feel like family. Ive averaged about 57K annually to be honest but the Health, 401K, Profit Sharing, Vacation, Paid Holiday and most important the work place enviroment has kept me here. If you're a slug then just keep looking and dont waste your time or this companys because you wont be happy here, but if you believe in doing an honest days work for an honest days pay then chances are you will find this company I drive for home. Every place has its good and bad, but the good far outweigh the bad here.

    Inland lanes Thanks this.

How much per week when you're staring out? And what states does Northern take you to?

James Miller was last here on May 28, 2016 That's 2016! Since he hasn't been here since then I would doubt seriously if he'll reply to you.
In the future please check the upper left hand corner of a post you wish to respond to. The date of the post will be there.
You're already taking up a considerable amount of space with your questions. That's okay but there's no need to post things that probably won't get an answer.

Here's the map of states that Northern Refrigerated travels to. I posted this in one of your earlier threads.
