Just overhauled a 14 liter Detroit and installed new turbo. Owner picked up the truck and when he accelerates the check engine light comes on. The code is PID 103 FMI 8 Flash code 64 Turbo Speed Sensor - input failure

I replaced the sensor and he is still getting fault. When he is sitting it will not come on. You can rev up the truck and it will not come on. Only when he is driving. I had the computer hooked to it and we drove down the road and when the engine light comes on the turbo speed goes to zero.

He has a small leak in his charge air cooler. Other than that I don't see anything.

    Any thoughts?

I've seen sometimes during major work that harnesses can get pinched or stretched. Check harness for damage as well as connectors for pulled pins.

The connector for the sensor, as you know, is zip-tied above the "pita pocket" for the camshaft along with a few others. When you removed the camshaft you would have had to cut those zips. That clump of wires and connectors is in a horrible spot and is way too tight. I would check there first.

Do you think he would have any issues running it like that? He scheduled a load for the truck before I was even finished putting the oil pan on it. I checked the wires going back to ECM like it says to do in troubleshooting guide and they checked out OK. The next step in guide was turbo but that is new. Then air leaks in system. I showed him the leak but he said the check engine light was not doing that before. But his old turbo was about froze up. I could barely turn it. He had a large hole in his pipe from air cleaner to turbo. I fixed that.

if you have ddrs you should check vpod output pressure.

Is there any spots that harness could "flex" when the engine torques up under load? I've had quite a few wire harnesses check out ok but as soon as you wiggle test or move the harness, the meter resistance changes from 0 ohms to like 50 or more. PITA to find sometimes.

I will have to get him back in here and look it over some more. Thanks for the responses. I will let you know what I come up with. If anyone else has any thoughts I will listen.

No problem. Considering the fact that you are a Veteran of these boards, I know you will keep us updated! Please check that vpod output with your laptop. Good luck!

The guy finally brought the truck back. I checked the wires from sensor to ECM. They checked out ok with OHM meter. If I am reading the schematic for the wires for this sensor it works off of frequency?

I have access to DDDL and reports but that is all. I am not getting any turbo speed at any time now though. I drove the truck down the road and other than the check engine light coming on when you are pedal mashing it runs fine. I can't notice any change in power.
