Dude, I'll be honest, we all make mistakes and F-up from time to time. Trust me you are not the first to misjudge and you wont be the last. I have bumped back doors of other tlrs at night just being stupid and not GOALing. Crap happens we get complacent.

The bad part about when this happens is it makes you second guess your self constantly why backing in. Last time I bumped doors with a guy I would not back into a spot that was not on the last row and to a field. It took me about 6 months before I started backing in spots that were door to door again.

Again, Don't feel bad it happens to the best of us. Its all in what we learn from the experience.

If it makes you feel any better, We had a dude that put a truck into a ditch on dry pavement. Then gets towed out and then drives to the dealer to have a estimate done and takes out not one but two yellow polls pulling into their driveway.

My trainer w/35 yrs of experience said "All drivers make mistakes..just try to 'minimize' them and not repeat the same ones."

Not a one driver can say that over their years of driving that they havnt 'tapped' a trailer in a crowded, unlit, dirt drop yard @ nite! The key is not to 'tap' a leased or independent owner's trailer..large co.'s expect some of that by the skid plates along the sides.

Just remember, that you didnt have a moving violation where lives were affected.

I had a graph of Accidents/Incidents vs. Years Driving Experience but cant find so will give it 'verbally:'

A high rate of accidents/incidents starting out thru the 1st year and then tapering off by year 3. Then after about 8-10 yrs, the rate slowly starts going back up! Reason: drivers over time develop some bad driving habits which eventually catch up with them in their later years.

So learn & practice good driving habits which take time.....dont let a single 'incident' (no tkts/personal injury, etc. this time) get you too down.

 

He will be fine job wise, He holds a decent rating in the company so that side of things so he is safe. Just hope he don't beat him self up over a mistake to bad. They happen to all of us.

 

I found out that new drivers after 3-6 mos think "they've arrived." But as time goes by and more difficult & challenging situations occur during their driving, 'humility' sets in and 'reality' is reached. Never get too over confident because even the best drivers can 'fall!'
