Bump! Any new info on the latest and greatest lightweight aluminum end dump?
-
I would look at the trailstar line. A freind has one and it appears to be really well made. I no it's lighter than his previous one but not sure how much I will try to find out

Have you looked into MATE end dumps? My boss just purchased is 5th trailer from MATE and has only purchased from them because of the duriblity of the trailers. The trailer my boss ordered is a 30ft frameless 54in sides and smooth side. The empty weight is about 13,000 lbs but thats with a Shurlock tarp, tri-axle, and heavy duty draft arms.

That's a nice looking trailer!
I wonder what the empty weight would be on this trailer as a 37' tandem.

Give MATE a call they should be able to give you a pretty good guess on the weight I'd guess around 11,000-12,000 depending on your spec's.

Friend of mine got a Travis Alumatech. Its an aluminum half round and 39ft weighting at around 9k. I'm really impressed on how they upgraded from the old alumatech design. .http://www.travistrailers.com/trailers/end-dumps/alumatech/

Yep, I'd been considering the new Alumatech over the MAC, I actually spoke to an engineer down there last week. The MAC looks good but I wasn't hip to it being welded in the middle, then there were four MAC's busted in half in the San Antonio area this year alone. The Alumatech was already a decent trailer but Travis made them stronger in a couple of places which has them on the top of my list.
I had pretty much come down to two Travis acquired trailers, Alumatech and CMC / Wave Wedge.
As Cyclesdalecummins07 posted above, the Mate is also up there but I've heard some folks say they prefer the other trailers including Vantage over the Mate claiming the Mate was heavier and had some issues. It looks pretty strongly made to me but I'm no expert. I'm definitely going to talk to them and see what they can offer.
I still have to crack the final trailer length numbers in order to maintain inner bridge with a day cab which I'm considering buying when eobr's are required (Dec 2017). 37' will definitely work but I think I can get it down to 35'6" with set back trailer axles and slanted front wall, won't know exactly till I have the trailer dimensions and kingpin to rear axle length in hand, then I can calculate the weight vs wheelbase on the truck.

What issues have you heard about the MATE trailers? The only issues we've had is the air bag that pushes, and holds the axles up breaking the ring causing the bag to blow out but I've seen the same problem with Travis trailers its an issue with the bags not the trailer. Also, MATE trailers are on the heavier side but they hold up better than the lighter trailers. I see many more older MATE trailers on the road than any other aluminum dump trailer. Another company that hauls with us has had a few issues with their Vertex trailers a few broken axles, but that's not a Travis issue its an axle issue, but they did send one trailer back because of bad welds. The same company just purchased a half round trailer from Travis and they don't like it at all they said they'll never buy another I don't know what issues they are having with it. It's a 28-30ft tri-axle
