I wouldn't recommend surgery of any type except as a last resort.
Exercise and diet - the two most dirty 8 and 4 letter words it seems - but are also the only two things that will keep weight off long term.
Exercise - keep it simple and work up. Start with a 10 minute brisk walk. Work up to 30+ (at once is best). There are plenty of breaks during the day to get this done.
Diet - start replacing bad foods (chips, candy and such) with fruits and vegetables. Find the ones you like and cycle through them. Cut out the simple sugars.
Weight loss isn't an issue if you're willing to make the effort. The hard part is when you hit the weight loss plateau, pushing through and keeping the journey going.
Lots of good suggestions already made including these two:
- Fat, Sick, and nearly dead
- Forks over knives

Exercise and diet are too complicated and too much work for fat, lazy slobs. Just have a surgery so they can continue being lazy. Part of the rep us truckers now have. How many 350LB slobs did you see getting out of the cab of a truck back in the 60's and 70's? Not many because in those days there was a lot of discipline required to succeed

Look for something called 6 week body makeover. This is basically an eating plan based on body type. I used it and am about to go back on it to get rid of some more. I initially lost 4" in the waist and have kept that off for 5 years now. Kinda got out of the plan because of life. I did this with no exercise at all.
Basically what it is, is a plan where you eat 5-6 small meals per day instead of 2-3 large ones. Believe me, you will not be hungry on this plan. You actually have to force yourself to eat at times.
Now this was years ago, but mother of a friend of mine had the stapling done and within 5 years she was dead.NavigatorWife and glitterglue Thank this. -
And soda has replaced coffee as the go to drink.

Just monitoring your portions will go a long way toward balancing your weight. It is important to eat a balanced diet. That includes nuts, fruits, vegetables and smaller portions of meat. I eat pretty much anything that I want, but don't eat large portions. Exercise is also helpful when it comes to losing weight and keeping in shape. Exercise can be a challenge in this business. It can also be a challenge to eat right. But, you can do it. Spend some time learning about nutrition. Some foods work together to enhance your metabolism. It is time worth spending.

What's a lap band surgery? I know I can google it but those medical things gets me feeling werid. If I think what I think it is, where they make your stomach smaller, making you feel full early, well I know a lady who did it and she drives a school bus. So work for her. She still drives

At the OP, I lived off fast food when I moved out at 18. I kept relatively active but ended up at about 220ish lbs (I'm only 5' 6"). Once I started eating better I dropped to 170 lbs in 1 summer with no change in my physical activity levels. It doesn't take much. Snack on some carrots instead of chips, substitute soda pop for water etc. -
The surgery won't do anything to alter poor eating habits. It would accomplish your goal of losing weight much better if you just changed your eating habits and started to eat healthy. By only eating healthy, you could lose weight. And it won't cost anything to change your habits. It will not have any negative side effects. There will be no recovery period from surgery if you just change your eating habits.NavigatorWife and daf105paccar Thank this. -

You will need to change your eating habits with the surgery. Why not just change your eating habits and skip the surgery? If you really want to lose weight there is only one proven long term way to lose and maintain your weight. You need to change your eating habits and move around. Changing your eating habits is the most important way to change your weight.
