If you are not on dispatch, can you drive the truck 30 miles to the next city to go somewhere? I'm curious how this works exactly with swift.

I will finish a load or drop it off at terminal, but then there will be maybe a day of down time, and I kind of get 'trapped' wherever I stopped at. Can I drive the truck somewhere while I'm waiting for a new load? I understand it costs them gas money. Do you get in trouble if you drive 10 or 20 miles while not on dispatch?

The reason I ask is uber costs a lot of #### money, same with a taxi. Am I just stuck wherever the truck is stopped at?

    Thanks for the info.

Call/QC your DM ... You're not going to be able to justify anything you do vis-à-vis Swift policy, based on what you heard on the internet.

No mileage limit on personal conveyance per DOT . It is decided on by your company on what they are willing to let you do.

Does swift allow line 5? After I drop a load, if the customer don't allow overnight stay or doesn't have a bathroom, I'll just drive to the nearest truckstop and wait. But I'm usually have another load right away...so that rarely happen

Only O/O, L/O have line 5 here at Swift. As far as personal conveyance, I have seen many bob tail out of the terminals to go to truck stops to sit and wait instead of terminal, but remember, every time that the truck moves, you are the drive line.

There are those times if you happen to get in a area where many trucks where sent for a certain customer and then not enough freight to get everyone out.

I'm still pretty new, but it makes sense why swift has as many drivers as possible. There are probably 20 or more of us here waiting around for a load, and we only really get paid when we have a load. So swift has all these drivers on call essentially. The freight moves, and they use as many drivers as they need. The rest don't really get paid. It reminds me of the illegal workers outside Home Depot. 20 will wait outside, but the truck comes by and only needs 5.

Keep this fact in mind ... when you go spouting off on the following, with the conviction that you think you actually know what you're talking about.
