I'm baaaaaack!!!!!!!!

Got me one of those blue gel cushions--they have a newer one that's a lot thinner than the giant older ones. Seems okay--if it doesn't work out I'll find a memory foam pillow per suggestion.

Only gripe so far is the nice fabric cover is an additional $20. I think that's wrong and they should advertise the actual selling price. I paid $29 for the cushion and stuck it in a pillow case. We'll see how that turns out.

Correct on the purpose of the split--the design had a small crease in the sheet metal that ran from the center of the windshield to the tail. Stingray.

Countach = an expression of astonishment, usually exclaimed upon seeing a particularly sexy woman ("Holy ####!). The actual meaning behind the car's name, however, was the name of a particularly nasty breed of fighting bull (a tradition that continues to this day). Enzo Ferrari was a royal douche, and he angered Feruccio Lamborghini into creating cars that were better than Ferrari could make. Their cars were vastly superior Grand Touring machines for the road (350GT, 400GT) as Ferrari was focused on racing and only sold road cars to support his racing activities. They didn't define the true exotic until Carozzeri Pininfarina designed the positively erotic Miura. They became synonymous with supercar when the great Marcello Gandini at Carozzeri Bertone penned the LP 400 Countach, thus cementing Lamborghini as the definitive gearhead's wet dream.

Re the Stingray: the hood vents were put on the prototype because of front end lift at high speeds caused by air pressure buildup. Engineers cut holes in the hood to let the air escape, solving the problem. Designers covered the holes with those distinctive grates. Early production models experienced problems with water draining into the engine compartment and causing electrical woes, prompting Chevrolet to recall those early models and plug the vents, and later models had solid hoods and dispensed with the grilles.

It was Porsche that sued to ban the Corvette from showroom stock racing in 1984, citing "unfair technological advantage" but really just all butthurt on account of how bad their cars were getting spanked.

It was Enzo Ferrari himself who indirectly gave us some beloved hypercars, just by being himself (he was a royal prick). He ticked off one of his drivers on the wrong day, a chicken farmer from Texas named Carroll Shelby. He decided to humiliate Ferrari by beating him in the arena he loved most. Poof--289 Cobra, FIA 289 Cobra, the iconic 427 Cobra (not many of these actually built), and (with Pete Brock) the blistering GT40 series and the ahead of its time but ill fated Daytona Coupe. The Daytona was so ahead of its time it was ridiculed for its Kammback design (against conventional wisdom). They stopped laughing when nobody could touch the darn thing. If mechanical woes and FIA rule changes hadn't parked the beast it might have been banned like Jim Clark's unstoppable Chaparral series or the all wheel drive Audis would be.
