He's hard to get into a forum. If it takes time out of his day it's costing him money.

That makes sense. I think I'm going to keep this brand new radio untouched until I can ship it to Hard Drive, I like that name better. I wished his website worked. I like the idea of done right the first time.

How far did you get from Wolfmans shop before he faded out of your reception?

hey, I'm new to this just wondering about cb radios. I'm getting a cobra 29lx radio and a k40 plus antenna. This is going to be mounted on my pickup truck in the front left corner of my box. Is it relatively easy to install cb's? Does anyone know what the range is on a k40 plus? Anything else I should know? Thanks!

Welcome to cb world where the simple can become crazy enuf to make ya mad..
Mount that ant as high as you can(if you have a back rack or something)..keep as much metal under the ant as possible and closer to center as well..Dont buy truck stop coax, read and watch vids on cb and antenna mounting solutions..ONLY as a starter point watch vids on how to tune your antenna swr..
When you get that all done, come back and someone will help from there..Just incase there are issues yournot aware of,dont keep talkin on the radio till then..

The maximum possible distance out of your pickup truck would come by drilling a hole right in the middle of your roof. That's where most of your performance will begin. If you're unwilling to drill a hole in the middle of your roof Just slap a magnet mount on the roof and be happy with whatever performance you get. I guarantee I would hear you a minimum of 30 miles on flat ground if you had a stock unmodified Cobra 29 and Wilson 5000 roof mount

Don't let anyone open your stock new radio. Buy some junk from Craigslist if you want to give something to a golden screwdriver to screw with. That way you won't feel had and stupid. That ain't a good feeling.

Don't ask how I know. Wish someone had of told me.

If you ain't willing to run illegal-amps, and spend a gang of coin, be happy with talking 5-7 miles on the road tops, 10 miles to a base station. Your swr must be below 1.5 and the other guy must have his antenna system proper as well.

Then, leave it. Otherwise, you'll be tilting your antenna and at windmills.

    Good luck.
